Stone Way Rising: The evo corner

The following story comes to us from Aly at Fremont Neighbor. Photo by Alyson Teeter Welcome back! The previous installments felt too hefty so we’re going to cut this one to a half block of Stone Way. If the west side of the 3500 block felt like a greatest-hits mix of fish and chips, beer, and chocolate, the east side is where Stone Way’s modern era really shows itself. The buildings here are newer but the block’s story starts with old…

Local Artist Melinda Hannah and Aditi Yoga|Wellness Studio Sponsor a Celebration at the Wallingford Center

February is a short month, so I believe we can justify stretching the season of love and appreciation beyond the 14th of February and share a Valentine message. Wallingford is fortunate to have a talented artist, Melinda Hannah, who loves to memorialize the heritage homes found in our neighborhood and across the city. “It’s all about the legacy of this great community,” she says. You may have met Melinda at the Wallingford Farmer’s Market (Wallyhood did a feature on her artwork…

Gas Works Park is the number one attraction in the Wallingford neighborhood, as well as one of the top tourist destinations in Seattle. The park is also popular among locals for walking, outdoor yoga, kids’ playgrounds, summer picnics, concerts, kite flying, and even sledding during the rare winter snow. The park also draws thousands of visitors for the 4th of July celebration and for watching the New Year’s fireworks going off from the Space Needle. The 19.1-acre park, located on the…

OH, RATS! Public Health – Seattle & King County Survey

King County are launches a Rodent Prevention and Control Survey. The only rat I’ve ever loved is Splinter from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles — and I’ve had a lot of time to think about this. Labor Day weekend 4 years ago, my family moved into a Wallingford bungalow. We had finally hauled the last load from the moving vehicle and were enjoying refreshments on the porch swing when we saw them – scurrying across the power line, black as night…

Pizza, Gelato and Solar

My family often celebrates Friday with “pizza and game night,” ordering from our local Pagliacci at Stone and 40th. I’ve been watching the remodel of the store with curiosity, wondering if one day we could make use of the dining room – pizza being one of the few dining out experiences that consistently goes well with young kids. Last week, I noticed that solar panels had been installed on the roof, and I could no longer contain my enthusiasm. Luckily, marketing guru…
