Updated 411 on the 4111

(Updated: 12/26 9:20 am: I misread the order of things and got "newer" and "older" designs reversed. Corrected flow and opinions on same below.) There was quite a bit of conversation a week ago about the 4111 Stone Way development project, and whether the building design was a "fit" for the neighborhood. One sharp-eyed reader pointed out that older drawings of the building provided in the Early Design Guidance document available on the City of Seattle web site shows a much…

‘Stoneway Village’ gets a new name

Here's an update from the developers of Stoneway Village, including some new photos, and a new name: It’s been a while since our last update and a lot has progressed since then, the building is now framed, the roof is on, brick work is almost finished, the plumbing and electrical rough-ins are about half way through, and pre-drywall and elevator work has started! Whew! We worked hard through the summer and had minimal rain through the fall which really helped get the…

Have you spotted this house?

If you've been on Latona at NE 40th in the last week or so, chances are you've probably seen this house and wondered what in the heck was up with the spots. Well, we learned that Green Canopy is the company behind the playful polka-dots. The Fremont-based company buys dilapidated homes throughout Seattle and renovates them using sustainable materials and by making them energy-efficient. This 1924 house, which they've dubbed "Keaton" after Buster Keaton, will lose its spots by Friday so that the construction crew can put…

Help put the ‘home’ in Wallingford Home Tour

We're just about a month away from the 9th annual Wallingford Home Tour and the Wallingford Neighborhood Office is still looking for homeowners to add their homes to the tour. The Home Tour is scheduled for Sunday, October 2, from 11am - 4pm and the proceeds support the Wallingford Neighborhood office. Hopefully the WNO won't run into the same problems as last year, when they had to cancel the Home Tour due to lack of homeowner participation. The good news, though,…

House replaced!

Last September, Jordan reported a house theft on 43rd, between Wallingford and Burke, and we have good news: a new and improved house has replaced the missing one!     If you look at the comments from last year's post, you can read responses from both the architect and the owner, as well as kerrizor's promise to, upon completion of the house, leave a jar of jam at the front door. Can we have confirmation that this did, in fact, happen?…

Pop-Ups for Humans

Pop-Ups for Humans So there I was, sitting in my home-made booth at Wallingford’s first business expo, Cheers to Wallingford. At last, an interested couple approaches my space! “Ah, so you’re the one responsible for all of those horrid pop-ups!” “P-pop-ups?” I stammered, not quite tracking their criticism. “You know, turning our neighborhood of charming single-story bungalows to monstrous mega-mansions!” Gosh, I prefer to think of my work as improving the hood, not destroying it. But the couple did raise an…
