Long-time readers know we're big fans of the Wallingford Art Walk: wandering from shop to shop, grazing on nibbles, drinking cheap wine from plastic cups, chatting with the neighbors...and art! After a winter hibernation, Wallingford's First Wednesday will be returning in May, and don't worry, we'll be reminding you when the time is ripe. In the meantime, if you're a business that's interested in participating, the deadline to let them know is March 31st. Visit the Wallingford Art Walk web site…

There's something about the phrase "nationally renowned basketmaker" that just tickles our fancy. We imagine velvet ropes pulled back, excited murmurs of recognition, and stadium crowds roaring for this expert weaver. Ah, would that we lived in such a world. Perhaps if the artists of Fiberati have their way, some day we may. This Saturday, March 13th from 10 am - 5 pm at the Good Shepherd Center #202, the 12-person collective will be holding a group show and sale. The…

We were peddling up Wallingford Ave the other day, dragging our tow of delicious Essential Bakery dumpster-diver bread when we noticed this beauty towering over the sidewalk. The beauty we're referring to is the the piece of art, not the artist, Marvin Oliver, standing next to it (who's not bad-looking, mind you, but not as stunning as his work). The piece is suggestive of an oil drill, perhaps, pulling power and myth from the earth. The images on the side, we…

Hey, who's that standing next to Mayor Mike McGinn? Why, it's Helen Ippolito of Wallingford's Hamilton School. Along with Page Robinson of Hamilton, she was one of the winners of the City's Neighbor Appreciation Day Art Contest. As one of the top two winners, Helen's art will be featured on greeting cards distributed at libraries and community centers around the city. Nice. Oh, and that's Councilmember O'Brien on the other side of her. His art appears nowhere that we're aware of.

Now this is the kind of thing we love to see in Wallingford: more public art. We just received a call for proposals from artists for a mural to appear on the bridge between Fremont and Wallingford on N. 46th Street. Here are the details: CALL TO ARTISTS- 46TH ST.
