Recycling Christmas

With the holidays behind us, it's time to start thinking about taking down those beautiful lights adorning the outside of your home.  If you find yourself stuck with burned-out light strands that are ready for the trash, don't throw 'em out!  Instead, recycle them through the Seattle Public Utilities "Holiday Light Recycling Program".  From now through January 15, if you take your old light strands to the following nearby locations, they'll recycle the copper wire inside them: Whole Foods Market –…

Holiday Traditions

I'm not a sucker for much, but holiday traditions really get me.  They are the one time of year when people everywhere, across various cultures and at varied times across the globe, people everywhere are trying to do something PLEASANT. Christmas lights, a succulent ham, shiny garland snaked around a colorful tree, winter solstice feasts, pine boughs made into homemade wreaths.  Long holiday office lunches, and frosted cookies that taste better than they look.  The Figgy Pudding Street Corner Caroling Event,…

Woodlawn Santa Update

When I answered my phone today, and the person on the other end gave a rousing, "Ho ho ho!" I knew Sharon Ehrig was doin' o-kay.  And she is! Also known as "Woodlawn Santa," Sharon Ehrig is one of the bright lights in Wallingford.   I know some of you are waiting to hear how Sharon is doing after her breast cancer surgery, so I'll just say it:  she's doing great!  The surgery did not reveal any new concerns or problems.  Yay! …
