Coffee and other necessities (what’s open, what’s not)

It never fails in my house on Christmas Day -- either I'll need some random ingredient for dinner, or we'll be out of "x" (dog food, milk, or heaven forbid--wine) and my poor husband will be sent out on a quest in the middle of the day.  So, to make my life (and hopefully yours) easier, here's a list of stores and whatnot that will be open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, including the most important among life essentials:  coffee…

A Muddy Cup Opens Tuesday

A few weeks back, we reported that East Wallingfordians would soon have a new java spot, and now we have an official date:  A Muddy Cup will open on Tuesday, (10/12).  Their hours will be 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. to start, and depending on the neighborhood's need for a twilight caffeine fix, they may adjust their closing hours.  A Muddy Cup is located on the northwest corner of 45th at Latona. Sarah Dolezal told me that they'll be using Sol…

The Street Treats truck is coming!

As a kid growing up in the suburbs, hearing the jingling bells of the ice cream truck was one of the best things about summer.  Living in a tract housing development that had 2.5 children for every home, our purchases were easily the driver’s entire take for the day.  We’d be in the middle of a kickball game in the cul-de-Sac, or building a fort in the back yard when the bells beckoned us to drop whatever it was we were…

There's nothing as American as apple pie, and nothing goes with apple pie better than a cup of coffee. That, we assume, is the logic behind Tully's coffee give-away tomorrow morning. Friday, July 2nd from 7 - 10 am, various Tully's, including the Wallingford location at 2100 N 45th St, will be giving away free drip coffee. The rest of the weekend is a buy-one-get-one-free deal on barista drinks. Nothing says America like buy-one-get-one-free.

Redesign the Mosaic Den

The whole idea just seems too wacky to be true: a delicious coffeehouse with pastries where you pay whatever you want (or nothing at all, if you think that's fair), big comfortable chairs, a well appointed children's playroom and a community gathering space available for whoever needs it. But the Mosaic Coffeehouse is stranger than fiction. Now, a group of folks are going to give something back. Amy Woidtke, Jessie Wolfrum, and Amy Darling, all members of the Fremont-based Biznik business…

Espresso Paintings at Irwin’s!

Okay, check these out.  Was at Irwin's today enjoying an enormous cinnamon roll with my daughter.  We looked up at the wall next to us and noticed some paintings in suspiciously familiar brown tints. Yes, these are paintings done in espresso.  Two are copies of Van Goghs (did he drink a lot of coffee?) and one is an original composition.  Wow, makes you wonder with so much of the stuff around, what else could we do with it?  If you got…
