Jay writes: I ran into the secretary from the Dentist office on Stoneway and 49th St. and she mentioned that they were broken into last night. Nice clean job, removing a large and heavy safe. She thought maybe they were looking for drugs too, but there weren't any. The police told her they thought it was a professional job and linked to a string of burglaries around this area. That's all I know. Keep an eye out! So, remember: if someone…

If you thought you heard shots early Tuesday morning, you weren't imagining it. The SPD Blotter blog relates: On 9/8/09, just shortly before 1:00 a.m., officers were in the area of Greenlake, near Evans Pool, conducting an area check on a shots fired call.  While checking the pool lot, a female approached officers and advised that she had just been robbed. According to the victim, she was walking near the canoe rental shed, when two males approached her.  One of the males put a…

Alcohol Impact Area

Those of you who live near I-5 and 50th Street are likely painfully aware of how the city's Alcohol Impact Area (AIA) boundaries have impacted Wallingford. In 2006, the city voted to designate several areas around the city (most of Downtown, Belltown, the CD, the ID, Capitol Hill, and the University District) AIAs, where the sale of the type of cheap, high alcohol malt liquors favored by the alcoholic homeless would be illegal. The unfortunate side effect of this act was…

Last week, the City Attorney’s Office filed 152 criminal charges for various tax violations.…

Just a reminder: close up your house when you go out, even on these remaining hot days we have. My Green Lake reports a daylight burglary, not an uncommon event in these parts, just over the Wallingford - Green Lake line: The perp climbed in through a window which was ajar; stole electronics including a laptop, alarm clock and dvd player. This is the second time in 1 year that our home has been robbed during the daytime. The burglary happened…

Pole Fire

Thanks to My Green Lake's industrious working of the Twitter, we learned that there was a pole fire in Woodland Park tonight. Who ever heard of a pole fire? Well, here's a picture snapped by Joe Sunga. Apparently, an electric line snapped, hit the pole with sparks and ba-boom! A good old fashioned pole fire. Doesn't sound like anyone was hurt, but a kickball game was cancelled, for which we offer our deep condolences.

Yard Vandalism

Jupiterwise posted this to the Wallyhood Forums yesterday: This afternoon I returned to my house near 40th and Corliss to discover that someone had stomped on our lavender and rosemary bushes, ripping off several branches, tore out a bunch of plants from our parking strip, and worst of all, took our terra cotta planting pot with two baby ginkgo trees and smashed it in our driveway. I remember hearing a year or two ago about other gardens in the general vicinity…
