This past Saturday, we heard there was an "Incident at Verity Credit Union" that led to a police cordon of the area, but we didn't have any of the details. Casey McNerthney over at the Seattle P-I has more details: A man who stole about $5,900 from a Wallingford bank Saturday is still on the run, and a police report released Thursday gives more details about the robbery. The man entered the Verity Credit Union at 4545 Stone Way N. about…
An anonymous tipster writes: Given the recent break-ins or attempted break-ins, I was wondering if anyone else has been getting visits from a couple of ladies who knock on the door with a pitch about some kind of entrepreneurship thing. We had two visits yesterday (one at the front door, one at the back door about an hour later) and another visit this evening (about 7:45 p.m.). Last night was a different lady than tonight, but the stories were similar. The…
In addition "Incident at Verity" over the weekend, we got two notes about criminal activity in the area. The first came from Brian: Just wanted to pass onto your readers that we experienced a robbery last night sometime between midnight & 8 am. The Prowler stole the radio/iPod player out of our VW Eurovan parked in our driveway. Then went into our fenced in backyard and stole my KONA "Jake the Snake" cyclo-cross bike. I have reported the incident to the…
Pete asks: Any idea what the "incident" that caused the Wallingford Branch Of Verity Credit Union to be closed today is? We don't, but hope it wasn't like the Incident at Bartell's. Who's got the skinny? Update: Sam notes that this SeattleCrime.com article, posted at 11:15 Saturday morning, probably has the answer: Police set up containment in Wallingford a short time ago near Stone Way N and N 47th Street looking for a robbery suspect. Officers are looking for an older…
Walking home from her boyfriend's house Thursday at approximately 11pm, 24-year-old Wallingford resident Samantha had just crossed 38th St and Stone Way when she felt a tap on her shoulder. A man who had come up behind her without her noticing said, "Give me your bag." She replied, "No" and kept walking. He tapped her on the shoulder, again asking for her belongings. She again refused, yelled loudly and punched him in the stomach. He then showed her he was carrying…
Samantha wrote: I'd like to report that I was robbed at gunpoint last night near Stone Way and 36th. I was not hurt and a police report has been filed. That's awful to hear, Samantha. We're glad to hear you're safe. Folks, please be safe.
Alan writes: Here’s another “What have we sunk to?” item. Here are pics of the second trash can that has been burned up at Meridian Park by the restrooms. The first time it was just the lid. Someone couldn’t figure out that there are real fire receptacles available to have a bit of a fire in just across the park. That was a month or two ago. Now, someone has burned up the entire can, lid and all. Seems to me…
