Happy Ending

We run crime stories all the time, lamenting our broken car windows, stolen GPS's and our lost innocence. This time, we get to report good news...for the good guys, anyway. The Seattle P-I reports that they have arrested two of four suspects in the armed robbery cases we reported occuring at Green Lake and in the Tangletown area several weeks ago: One of two persons arrested Tuesday night in connection with a string of robberies around Seattle is a felon who…

An East Wallingford neighbor writes: I noticed some suspicious activity around 3:00am in our neighborhood last night. There was a white male dressed in all black driving around on a small ATV looking into all our cars. He did several passes where he drove up along side the cars and looked in (looked like he was searching for anything valuable). We called the cops to inform them of this suspicious activity but they arrived about 45 minutes later and the man…

Jay writes: I ran into the secretary from the Dentist office on Stoneway and 49th St. and she mentioned that they were broken into last night. Nice clean job, removing a large and heavy safe. She thought maybe they were looking for drugs too, but there weren't any. The police told her they thought it was a professional job and linked to a string of burglaries around this area. That's all I know. Keep an eye out! So, remember: if someone…

If you thought you heard shots early Tuesday morning, you weren't imagining it. The SPD Blotter blog relates: On 9/8/09, just shortly before 1:00 a.m., officers were in the area of Greenlake, near Evans Pool, conducting an area check on a shots fired call.  While checking the pool lot, a female approached officers and advised that she had just been robbed. According to the victim, she was walking near the canoe rental shed, when two males approached her.  One of the males put a…

Alcohol Impact Area

Those of you who live near I-5 and 50th Street are likely painfully aware of how the city's Alcohol Impact Area (AIA) boundaries have impacted Wallingford. In 2006, the city voted to designate several areas around the city (most of Downtown, Belltown, the CD, the ID, Capitol Hill, and the University District) AIAs, where the sale of the type of cheap, high alcohol malt liquors favored by the alcoholic homeless would be illegal. The unfortunate side effect of this act was…

Motel Crackdown

The City of Seattle issued a press release yesterday announcing they are cracking down on several notorious Aurora Ave motels, several of which are along the Wallingford / Fremont border (Wallingford Inn, Fremont Inn, Italia Motel and the Isabella Motel): The city of Seattle has taken action against the operators of five Aurora Avenue motels that have been the scene of drug-use, prostitution and other illegal behavior. Last week, the City Attorney’s Office filed 152 criminal charges for various tax violations.…

Just a reminder: close up your house when you go out, even on these remaining hot days we have. My Green Lake reports a daylight burglary, not an uncommon event in these parts, just over the Wallingford - Green Lake line: The perp climbed in through a window which was ajar; stole electronics including a laptop, alarm clock and dvd player. This is the second time in 1 year that our home has been robbed during the daytime. The burglary happened…
