Helpin’ with the Hoopla

This is Juan -- a 17 year-old staff member at the Wallingford Boys and Girls Club -- covered in Cool Whip.  Juan has been a Boys and Girls Club member since he was 10 and last year, he became the youngest and newest counselor. You can see what sort of initiation the newly minted counselors endure. Creaming the counselor is only one of the many fun activities offered at the Halloween Hoopla, and this year the Wallingford Boys and Girls Club…

Wallyhood’s Pumpkin Carving Contest

Last year, a neighbor's teenage son from up the street made the coolest Mario Jack-o'-lantern I'd ever seen; and the more I looked around while trick or treating with the kids, the more super awesomely cool pumpkin carvings I saw.  We've definitely got some talented folk here in Wallingford. And now we'd like to put your pumpkin carving skills to the test with our first annual Wallyhood Pumpkin Carving Contest.  Our good friends over at Archie McPhee have put together some…

Meridian School cleans up

On Thursday morning, kindergartners through fifth graders from The Meridian School were out at Meridian Park and on nearby Bagley raking, weeding, sweeping, and picking up litter.   The efforts were a part of The Meridian School’s annual fall Community Service Day.  At the north end of the park, fourth graders worked with an arborist from Sustainable Wallingford to measure trees, while parents worked hard at an apple press, making homemade cider.  I gotta tell ya -- honestly --  it was the…
