Alphabet Monkey Soup…Mmm Mmm good

Alphabet Soup Children's Books hosted the rock'n local kid's band, Recess Monkey, last Saturday March 6th. The news about the concert must have spread far and wide because this sweet little children's bookstore was jam packed when we arrived a few minutes prior to set time. I stood outside with about twenty other parents, bopping my head and tapping my feet to the boisterous rhythm as the band started off with Moon Boots, from their most recent album, The Final Funktier. Linda Waterfall and the “Keep Wallingford Dull” Society

(Wallyhood welcomes our newest contributing writer, Patrick Shaw) My wife and I moved to Wallingford in August. As we were moving in, I had a flashback to hearing Linda Waterfall in concert at Seattle University. Her guitar player made a joke about moving to Wallingford and having to join the Keep Wallingford Dull Society, and as my wife and I were unpacking, I had a bad moment: It couldn’t be true, could it? Conclusion of Is That Jazz? Festival

The Avant-Jazz Festival at the Chapel Performance Space wrapped up this past weekend with four more powerful performances. The second weekend began with Vertigo led by Seattle Clarinetist Jesse Canterbury. It was an ethereal almost dream like set that carried the listener on a journey into the stars. Canterbury was joined by Tom Baker on guitar, Joanne DeMars on Cello, and Chris Stover on Trombone. The quartet was strongly attuned to each other which carried them to a higher more intense…
