Found Cat Finds Foster Care

Three weeks ago, we posted information about a female black cat that was found by Wallingford reader, Jim. Thanks to Marianne at Friends of the Animals Fondation, we're able to provide you some good news about her: Jim (the finder) contacted me and the West Seattle based cat rescue group I volunteer with. Jim brought Li'l Missy (now June) to meet me at our vet earlier this week.  June was given an exam, vaccines, treatment for parasites, and a combo test. …

FOUND: Female Black Cat

4/1, 7:41pm Update: We received an email from Don Baxter of the Seattle Animal Shelter, in response to the information reported below regarding the shelter's euthanasia policy. A copy of the email appears below. 4/1, 4:27pm Update: Jim thought he had a lead on the cat's owner earlier today, but it turned out to be a case of mistaken identity. If you think you have a lead on the cat's human, send us an email at [email protected]. Jim wrote to tell…

Playfield repairs and a new dog park? There’s a grant for that.

Back in December, we posted about the Wallingford playfield closure, a post which spurred a lot of comments from concerned neighbors. In true Wallyhood fashion, most comments were civil, though the off-leash-dogs-at-the-park issue clearly does push our collective buttons. Reader and community leader Greg, who was the driving force behind the playfield and who still keeps a watchful eye over it, filled readers in on some the history of the park and the challenges posed by rain, cleats and paws: During…

Anyone lose a Pitbull Puppy?

Update, 8:12pm: Good news! "Dude" has been reunited with his "Dad"! Meredith posted on our Facebook page last night that she found a young Pitbull in between her fence and her garage. She's taken him to a Vet up in Lake City. The vet says the Pitbull is likely 9-10 mos. old and may be a stray, though his nails are clipped short, which likely means he has a human out there somewhere. The vet will hold him one more say…

Field Closure at Wallingford Playfield

If playing ultimate Frisbee or soccer in the mud is part of your winter ritual, then you’ll need to head somewhere besides Wallingford Playfield this year. The Parks Department recently closed to field to allow turf rebuilding. And this year they mean it! They have erected fencing to render the field largely unusable. I guess they finally realized that Wallingford’s winter sports enthusiasts, dog owners and restless youth were not going to stay off the field simply because a sign politely…

Found Kitty

Gary wrote to tell us that he found a cat a week ago and hasn't had any luck finding her owner: We live across the street from John Stanford International, and a week ago Sunday I was in bed when I heard a cat repeatedly meowing…I thought it was one of ours, so after hearing it for a while, went out and found a scared, hungry, thirsty little brown tabby right at the entrance to the JSIS basketball court/playground.  She clearly…

Missing Cat

Jamila wrote to tell us about a missing cat around NE 54th St. at Latona: We think it's likely that she's trapped or hurt in the blocks near our house.  She has never strayed more than a few houses away from our yard. Here's a flier about the cat.
