[Update: The day after this story posted, we received this information from Mike Mikkelsen, General Manager of Tweedy & Popp Hardware: The story posted today about Tweedy & Popp Wallingford should be withdrawn as it is inaccurate and no longer current.  One of the partners in the store wanted to sell his share and created the listing.  His share is being purchased back by existing partners and is not for sale to the public. The listing under MLS is supposed to have…

New Mexican Eatery Comes to Stone Way

Let's taco about it! Blinking neon lights announced a swanky new Mexican restaurant in the neighborhood. With Super Bueno, seasoned (no pun there!) restaurateur Ethan Stowell added another feather to his cap. Watch for "Baby Z", now in his seventh…

These are desperate times for those fleeing their home countries for safety and freedom. In the face of the stunning injustices the president's government has been inflicting on those in need, many of us are wondering what can one person do. Despite the walls going up (literal or figurative), there are still organizations working to welcome newly arrived refugees into our community. World Relief Seattle is one such non-profit, and I've had the pleasure of providing temporary housing to a number of…

Challah Making At Farmers Market

Growing up, my family was not particularly religious. I learned Hebrew from a private tutor, alongside the children of a couple family friends, but only stepped foot in a synagogue once or twice throughout my childhood. My family was part of a group of similarly-minded Jewish families that would gather in a church basement on high holidays and celebrate together, sans rabbi, children chasing each other down the thinly carpeted halls and across the linoleum floors. My bar mitzvah was held…
