Wondering what happens to all of Lincoln High School’s students once school gets out? As a high schooler going into her senior year at Lincoln, here are some of my favorite places and things to do in Wallingford to spend time in the sun this summer.   1. Coffee and a chat at Diva Espresso Diva is the go-to coffee spot for Lincoln students during the school year (a teacher once even organized a highly popular field trip there), and it…

Now that it is August, I want to give the Wallingford community a heads-up on upcoming events taking place at Gas Works Park. The first one, in early August, is the Fred Hutch Obliteride, which features a Friday Night Party on August 8th, and the ride itself on Saturday, August 9th. Obliteride is Fred Hutchison Cancer Center’s summer bike ride and 5K walk/run fundraiser. It is a welcoming and supportive community united in its efforts to cure cancer faster. Every dollar…

Seattle Night Out in Wallingford

Every first Tuesday in August (this year on August 5th), something magical happens across the country and right here in Wallingford. Streets close, grills fire up, tables are set, and neighbors gather for National Night Out, a celebration of community, connection, and safety. Started in 1984 in the western suburbs of Philadelphia, National Night Out began as a grassroots campaign to promote neighborhood camaraderie and crime prevention. What started with porch lights and small gatherings has grown into a nationwide event…

Gardening During the “Dog Days” of Summer

According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, the “dog days” are traditionally considered to be the 40 days beginning July 3rd and ending August 11th. Per the “RainDrop App” (who knew such a thing existed?), rainfall in Wallingford in the month of June was 0.20 inches, and there have been 0.00 inches so far in July. No wonder I have been spending so much time watering my garden! Hopefully, this beautiful summer weather is helping your heat-loving tomato, cucumber, and pepper plants…

New Owner Brings Fresh Flavors to TangleTown Public House

One day in May, I took a walk up towards Green Lake. I had been researching my recent story about how bars and restaurants are faring five years post-pandemic, and landed at TangleTown Public House on 55th and Meridian, a place that has been flying under the radar on this site. My partner and I found a spot by the windows and started chatting with our server, Megan. She found out about my article and sent over Mi Mi Priyapas, who took…
