We only have the following blurb from the Seattle Police Department, and have not heard any other news.   We will post more as we hear it.  Please feel free to add relevant details in the comments. Copied from the press release: Homicide detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman found inside her Wallingford residence Monday morning. At approximately 9:20 am, North Precinct patrol officers were summoned to a residence in the 1300 block of North 43rd Street. …

At a recent Wallyhood editors and writers meeting (yes, we have those!), we were discussing story ideas, and someone suggested "what is the oldest business in Wallingford?". Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the owner of the top spot has ceded their title. After squeezing down to make room for a martial arts shop, and, more recently, Comics Dungeon, Petosa Accordions has folded up its Wallingford shop and moved north to Lynnwood. This is the end of an…

What started as a hobby for Nacho Bravo over decade ago has turned into a full commercial enterprise, which Nacho and his wife, Melissa, run together, turning wine from Eastern Washington into a vermouth made right here in Wallingford, Vermut Del Sol. Vermouth is an aromatized, fortified wine, produced by blending wine, alcohol, and dry ingredients…

Katie Lawson, president of the board at Fremont Community School (in Wallingford), alerted us to some changes happening to a property at the corner of 36th and Interlake. Here's her account of the situation: Fremont Community School (FCS) is a preschool that is a half a block away on Interlake towards the transfer station. A couple of years ago, FCS—known in the neighborhood as the “pig school” due to the presence of a pig and chickens in the play yard (the…

Mysterious Street Markings

Well, this isn’t exactly at the level of UFOs being definitely revealed to be aliens from another world or a “Loch Ness Monster” emerging from Lake Union, but … In walking around south Wallingford (between about Wallingford Ave and Eastern and south of 40th), I couldn't help but notice lots of lines painted on the street and even on the grass. They seem to be intended as a guide to upcoming work. I immediately suspected an SDOT project. I had a…
