I have just learned of an exciting new Wallingford organization, Historic Wallingford. A group of very enthusiastic Wallingford residents have developed this organization, had it incorporated as a non-profit entity in May 2017 and will orchestrate its official launch in January. Why Historic Wallingford? In years past, local architects and historians led walks and tours in Wallingford to highlight our unusual concentration of architecturally significant buildings. Seeking to expand upon this, it was suggested after discussions with several noted Seattle historians,…

If you walk down Interlake Avenue, just north of 36th Street, there’s a good chance you’ll see a hive of bright green, two-wheeled activity. That’s because the bicycle share company, LimeBike, has made this Wallingford warehouse its operational hub in Seattle. I recently spoke to Gabriel Scheer, who is in charge of LimeBike’s strategic development in Seattle, to ask him why the company chose Wallingford for its main facility in Seattle. Turns out it has less to do with our proximity…

Since 2010, local vendors have filled the Good Shepherd Center’s Chapel space to sell their handmade jewelry, clothing, home decor, Christmas decorations, baked goods, and more! Join…

Tour Wallingford-area Elementary Schools

You can never start planning early enough for that special time when your first child is about to enter Kindergarten. Two years before my son was due to start Kindergarten, I toured four schools. It was helpful to find out early what my options were and to spend a year observing my kid and solidifying in my mind what place fit him the best. Morning tours are great because you can see the kids in the class; however, I find that visiting…

Tuesday’s Nickelsville Meeting

This past Tuesday, I attended the Nickelsville community meeting held at the UW Fisheries building down on Boat St. There were about 40 people in attendance, and the mood was mostly positive. For those of you just joining us, the Ballard Nickelsville sanctioned homeless encampment is scheduled to move to Wallingford shortly, down by Ivar's and Dunn Lumber. This has created some understandable concern among those nearby who fear the impact of an increased homeless population in their neighborhood, as well…
