I have always loved a good pickle. When I was five, my brothers and I got "Tucker's Cukes" t-shirts, with a cheerful regiment of happy pickles marching into the future, and I swear I wore that shirt until the wind blew the tattered shreds off my bony frame. When I travel, other people pick up local wines, I shop for local pickles. So I am happy to report that I have discovered one of the finest pickle I have tasted in…

Get yourself some culture, without even getting in a car. On Sunday, December 3 at 10:30am, enjoy a performance of Taproot Theatre's Silent Night by Daniel Stoltenberg at the Wallingford Presbyterian Church (1414 Ashworth Ave N): A pair of strangers find themselves trapped with an angel, caught between time and continents. She comes to us from the Snohomish-Island County library system where she was Teen Services Coordinator and also manager of the Brier Library (not all at the same time!). Rutherford grew up in Spokane, attended college…

Micro apartment buildings throughout the Wallingford Urban Village? It’s possible under new zoning recommendations recently released by the City. Even though Mayor Ed Murray has left office, his Housing Affordability and Livability Agenda or HALA lives on. The HALA upzones (known as Mandatory Housing Affordability or MHA) are being championed by our own District four City Council member Rob Johnson, who is chair of the City Council's Planning, Land Use and Zoning committee.  A key part of this housing agenda is…

The City is collecting feedback on a proposal to add additional Restricted Parking Zones (RPZ's), or areas that would require a special zone sticker to park at certain times of the day. From the SDOT website RPZ page: SDOT recently completed a parking study of residential streets in Wallingford to determine the occupancy in the area as well as the percent of non-resident parking throughout the day and evening. The study  area includes the existing Zone 5 and parts of existing…
