I spoke to someone from the city at Tuesday's city-wide open house on MHA at Hamilton Middle School on Tuesday night about Nickelsville, which was originally scheduled to move to Wallingford in November. I was told that the move has been delayed while Seattle City Light, the property owner, worked through some issues, but they turned off the gas on the property earlier this week and plan to begin demolition of the existing structure in anticipation of Nickelsville's move tomorrow, Friday,…

While much has changed in our neighborhood in the past decade and a half, one constant has been Meaningful Movies. (Well, okay, there’s Dick’s also!) James Little was kind enough to write and let us know about an important anniversary coming up for MM, and he provides this interesting little history: Meaningful Movies in Wallingford will celebrate their fifteenth anniversary at the Friday, 2 Feb 2018 screening of the documentary, “War on the EPA,” followed by a panel discussion with former…

Wallingford targeted for more housing growth than most other urban villages under HALA

As I reported in November, the City has released the "Preferred Alternative" maps for proposed zoning changes under HALA (if you don't know what HALA is, you can find out more here). What I did not have in my hands when writing about the Preferred Alternative maps the first time, was the figures for just how much new development Wallingford could expect under these proposed zoning changes. As you can see in the document linked below, Wallingford is targeted for a…

For the past two months, artist Anthony Huss has shared wall space with nine other artists for the inaugural exhibit of Kerf International at the Blue Star Cafe. This month, he has the space all to himself! His fabulous abstract paintings are now on display in the back room of the restaurant through Saturday, March 3. But you can meet the artist at the opening reception this Saturday, January 27, between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. Anthony started out as a photographer…

[Editor's note: As we wrote back in May of last year, improvements are coming to 40th Street courtesy of SDOT’s Neighborhood Street Fund. Now, interested reader Kit Lewis writes to tell us that we can expect some additional changes to the signage relating to the school zone.] Have you ever driven westbound on NE 40th St, between the University Bridge and Wallingford Ave N, during School Zone hours?  Have you ever wondered why there’s no “End of School Zone” sign on…

Triple R: Tapped in Roosevelt, but Brewed in Wallingford

The average visitor to the Triple R Brewery taproom at 916 NE 64th St. in the Roosevelt neighborhood may not give much of a thought as to where the beer is actually brewed. But the frequent-flyers to our local breweries may well look around and ask themselves, “Where are all those stainless steel fermenters and such that every brewery has?” You won’t find those at the taproom though, because the beer isn’t brewed there; the beer is, in fact, brewed here…
