Pops Poppin’

The long-awaited opening of Seattle Pops (1401 N 45TH St) has popped! My son is dairy-free, so when other kids hit the ice cream, he hits the popsicles. And as a family, we eschew artificial dyes and corn syrup fairly religiously, so even a good popsicle can be hard to find. Which is why he's been adamant about regular attendance at the Wallingford Farmers Market: it's the only place we've been able to find Seattle Pops popsicles. No longer! As of last…

New Deal at Big Wheel

Much to my Subaru’s dismay, our neighborhood’s last surviving auto parts store, Big Wheel Auto Parts across the street from Tuta Bella’s, closed its doors in the Fall of 2015 as we reported here. Purchased by Revolve Development, the property has sat empty since that time with little sign of any thing in the works. But now, that may change. Eric at Revolve Development writes: We are working with a non-profit that supports the work of emerging artists, and they will…

If you’ve got a hankering to party in the street, and you don’t mind being limited to a really small space -- say, a space the size of a parking spot -- then Seattle’s PARK(ing) Day is for you. Parking Day, which will take place on September 15 from 9am to 7pm, is a chance for residents to create their own pop-up parks. As per the Seattle PARK(ing) Day website: PARK(ing) Day happens once a year in September and is an…

Summer means the somewhat annual Wallyhood summer meet up. Come meet the editors, writers, sponsors, and commenters of Wallyhood. We are hoping Densmore Dave returns from exile. It has been awhile since he commented. The meet-up is being graciously hosted by Murphy's Pub (1928 N. 45th St) on Wednesday August 9th from 7-9 pm. There will be a few rounds of beer and appetizers for everyone, and lots of neighborhood talk. Past years have been a relatively low-key, celebratory affair for…

Dog Days of Wallingford at Verity Credit Union

Wallyhood reader Kira wrote to let the neighborhood know about a fun event happening at Verity Credit Union (Located at 4545 Stone Way N) this weekend. For the 4th year in a row, Verity Credit Union is having its Dog Days of Wallingford event on Saturday, August 5, from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. This event was inspired by members routinely bringing their dogs into the branch (which we enjoy) so we wanted to do something special for our four-legged friends. This year, the event features…

Enjoy the warm weather with your neighbors this evening and celebrate Seattle Night Out. Night Out is a great way to meet and reconnect with neighbors and friends. Our block has a potluck block party every year and it is one of my favorite evenings all year. From the national website: Millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all fifty states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide on the first Tuesday in…
