After 25 years in Wallingford, the independently owned and operated percussion shop, the Drum Exchange, will be closing at the end of August. Owners Ed and Candace Hartman, reached out to Wallyhood to express their appreciation to the Wallingford Community and the loyal customers who have made the commitment to shop local with them over the past 25 years.   The shop has been known as a place to explore the world of percussion and feel at home.  Ed and Candace…

Meet Our Equity Champions

Back in February, I wrote about the Community Involvement Commission (CIC), the city’s replacement for the old neighborhood councils. At the time, the commission was still being established, and the application deadline was still open. Now, the commission is nearly filled out with Equity Champions (as the city is terming the Commission members). The purpose of the CIC (similar to the neighborhood councils) is to act as a liaison between citizens and city departments. To ensure that the CIC is representative…

Tomorrow is the big day! Get ready, Wallyhooders, for the 68th annual Wallingford Family Parade. You read that correctly: sixty-eighth! I can’t imagine anything going on for that many consecutive years, but for some reason, our small, neighborhood event has endured almost seven decades. Our humble parade may not boast a critical mass of nude cyclists or feature rainbow-themed everything, but what we do offer is lots of cuteness. The parade was formerly called the Wallingford Kiddie Parade and welcomed any…

**UPDATE FROM FAMILYWORKS** THE VAN WAS FOUND! Everyone was so kind to get out the word, and a community member (Thank you, Blount Family) spotted it in the parking lot of Horizon Church on Aloha and 99. Big dent in back, with a wheelbarrow inside (what??) and keys in the ignition. So, we are thrilled to have the van back. Thanks, everyone for your support and for keeping your eyes open. Love wins. Always. _____________________________________________________________ Earlier today, Wallyhood was informed that…

Fans of soba will soon have a new place to go to get their fix when Kamonegi opens in the space formerly occupied by Art of the Table. Wallyhood was contacted by Chef Mutsuko Soma who is proud to be opening her first restaurant in our neighborhood. Soma comes to Kamonegi after 3 years at Miyabi 45th. (Miyabi recently closed after an attempted reboot which we wrote about here.) Says Soma: I was opening chef and co-owner of Miyabi 45th (which closed…
