Wallingford Bicycle Excursion – Gasworks Park to Montlake Playfield

One of my favorite Wallingford excursions is taking the kids on the bike and going to Montlake Playfield. My route is almost all dedicated trail from my house and so I'm not too worried about the combination of cars and kids and bikes. My five-year old is hitched up to my bike on a Follow Me, and my two-year old rides on a co-pilot child seat. Montlake Playfield is a hidden gem of a park. The climbing jungle gym is a step up…

Back in March, readers took me to task for calling the police when I caught a young man stealing a basketball off my front porch (Porch Thief Caught). Today, frequent Wallyhood commenter Marie of Romania brought to my attention that this young man, Walter Burton, was killed by a drunk driver Monday morning while he slept in his tent by the I-5 entrance ramp off 50th NE Street. According to King 5 news: Burton was struck by a driver during the Monday morning commute…

I am super excited to report that East Wallingford has a delicious new food truck in the parking lot of Rancho Bravo, where the Pinky's truck used to be. It's called Mabel's Kitchen & BBQ and I just brought home some samples after chatting with Auntie Mabel, as she called herself, who is a lovely, very friendly lady originally from Hong Kong. Today's special was BBQ chicken sliders with cole slaw on them and a choice of 3 sauces: North Carolina…

In a post on Facebook, Lisa Maves says: Went up to Wallingford Park tonight with my daughter. We saw this and it brought both of us to tears. 3 portables at Hamilton, presumably to house overflowing students this fall. And the basketball courts are gone. Presumably, these portable classrooms will be in place only until the new Eagle Staff Middle School is completed and opened in the fall of 2017. In a letter to Hamilton Middle School families, Principal Tip Blish writes;…
