Crazy Baby Art

A little while back, I saw someone asking about the "baby exploding & baby getting impaled with rebar sculptures" by 40th and Interlake Ave N on the Wallingford / Fremont Facebook group. The whole thing sounded a bit more like the premise of a series of jokes we used to tell in elementary school, but nevertheless piqued my curiosity. With a bit of sleuthing*, I discovered it was produced by the wife and husband team of Missy Douglas and Kim Rask,…

Angelo Moore, lead singer, saxophonist and thereminist of the Los Angeles funk/punk/rock band Fishbone is playing three nights at the Seamonster Lounge (2202 N 45th St). Last night (Tuesday, Aug. 16)) was the first night. It cost me seven bucks and was amazing. I suggest you try to make it out for the Wednesday and/or Thursday night shows. I might be there too.

Tammy Dunakin, Chief Goat Wrangler from Rent-A-Ruminant, wanted to inform the neighborhood that her goats will be at 40th and Pasadena starting on Saturday, August 20th, for 8 days of munching.  Here's a little background information from a comment she wrote on the blog last year: Please pass the word to all you know DO NOT FEED THE GOATS ANYTHING! Many plants that grow around are highly poisonous. I make sure that the goat enclosure is free of any of those but I need…

Bike Corral at McDonald International School

In June, SDOT installed an on-street bike corral in front of McDonald International School, near the corner of NE 54th Street and Latona Avenue. Marjorie, who lives across the street from the school, contacted Wallyhood with her concerns about what this bike rack will do to possibly intensify the current traffic backups on 54th during school drop-off and pick-up times. Marjorie writes: A bike rack in that location will make navigating NE 54th and that corner even more difficult—but also less…

Tree Scavenging

I heard a strange story from a neighbor at our block party: she said she was looking out her window earlier this week and saw a mother with four kids, all under the age of 10, stop in front of her plum tree. The mother stopped and gestured and the kids scurried up the tree and proceeded to harvest it, not bare, but heavily. Their job done, they descended and moved on. Obviously, they didn't ask. Later, she was out walking…

If you see someone passed out, call 911

On the Wallyhood forums, alchaseshistrainofthought posed the following question: What’s the appropriate (responsible and compassionate) action to take when I’ve found someone passed out on my front porch? I don’t feel particularly threatened. Looks like he’s just drunk. I asked if he’s ok but got no response. I could just step over him but that feels pretty callous. Should I call the police? Will any good come of that or will he just get pushed down the street to stumble onto…

Car Dent Scam

Josh posted this on the Wallingford/Fremont Facebook page today: Yesterday evening a guy and his accomplice pulled up in a truck next to my car on Latona and 45th. He said "Nice car man, you take good care of your car it looks like. You want me to roll out that big dent in your door? I just did 3 Priuses today." I was like, what dent? "You got a big dent right there." he said. He had a nice clean…
