Now that the weather is getting nicer, the thoughts of some of us will turn to biking. But who to ride with and where to go? Not to worry. Cory Gassman owner of School of Bike on Meridian has teamed up with Murphy's Pub, Evo Bicycles (not to be confused with Evo Ski and Snowboard) and Peddler Brewing to offer some introductory rides to all comers throughout the summer and into the Fall. We first told you about Cory and his…

With both the John Stanford International School and the Hamilton International Middle School sporting a Spanish immersion program for their students, Wallingford has a strong connection to Spanish. Amanda Reichert, owner of the the Vámonos Spanish Center at 45th St and Bagley, wants to dial that up. Perhaps taking a cue from Wallingford's cat cafe, Amanda envisions a Spanish café: Imagine walking into a café in the heart of Madrid during a trip to Spain; you order a café con leche and…

After reading Susanna Lin's excellent article on Urban Villages, I decided to "dive deeper" into the Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) that she referred to as it was hard for me to believe that in this day and age we would be dumping sewage into our waterways.  The City of Seattle defines Combined Sewer Overflow as follows: "In Seattle, like many older cities, sewer pipes carry both wastewater (used water and sewage that goes down the drain in homes and businesses) and…

In what seems to be a copycat bank robbery, Verity Credit Union (45th and Stone Way) was robbed for the second time in as many weeks. At 10:30 AM today, Seattle PD sent the following Tweet: Thanks to SPD's quick response, today’s suspect was caught very near the bank. That makes Seattle PD 2-for-2 in nabbing the Verity robbery suspects! The suspect from last week's robbery on May 14 was, however, caught in a very different way. From the May 19 SPD Blotter: "On May…

Well here's a sure sign of summer! The Wallingford Farmers Market reopens this week where it's been for a few years now: Meridian Park. From now through late September, the Farmers Market will be open from 3:30 to 7 pm every Wednesday. The market is run by the Seattle Farmers Market Association which also runs the Ballard and Madrona markets. I never gave much thought to how these markets pop up, but in fact, they do not just “pop up.” Quoting…

Teahouse Kuan Yin, 1911 N. 45th, fixture on 45th Street for over 25 years, has lost its lease and will be leaving Wallingford, with closure scheduled for early July. The landlord has already found a new tenant for the space.  The owners are looking for a new location in different North Seattle neighborhood, and are hoping to keep the business viable with the help of a Go Fund Me campaign. “We weren’t able to get a lease arrangement that worked,” says co-owner…
