Happy Thanksgiving, Wallingford! I hope everyone has a warm spot to spend the day, full of family, friends and food. At times like this, when we get to enjoy exactly how lucky we are, I'm especially thankful to all the people out there working to help those who could use a little luck. Which is why I've always been a huge fan of FamilyWorks. I appreciate not just that they provide a food bank for people who have trouble putting food on the table,…

We can’t damn the kids, so we must damn the house. Here are some local options: All Together Skate Park is open for fun behind Evo, replacing the erstwhile innerspace. It has camps and open skate times. Green Lake Community Center winter basketball gets on track November 30th for all ages- our son has been there for many years. Mike McGinn is even a coach! Well, McGinn is at Bitterlake, but still, it’s pretty cool that we get the awesome Ernie…

Gerald from the Iron Bull (2121 N 45th St) says they're having a clothing swap this Monday, November 23 at 8:00pm - 2:00 am: It's time for Spring Cleaning!...err...fall cleaning? Either way, here in Seattle it's the time of year that you switch from your only-used-for-3-months summer wardrobe to your oh-my-god-all-of-my-clothing-is-waterproof-and/or-made-for-layering fall/winter/spring wardrobe. So we know you have some stuff you want to get rid of. Whether it's that faux fur jacket you thought you loved at Nordstrom Rack but never…

Gas Works Chop Shop

There was a conversation on the Wallingford/Fremont Community Facebook page a few weeks back about stolen bikes, that began with this photo of a stripped bike frame found at Gas Works: In response, one commenter referenced the "Gas Works Chop Shop", suggesting someone who had lost their bike might check there. Gas Works chop shop? I'm familiar with the semi-permanent encampments in the covered building on the east side of the park, and my son discovered a cache of used needles tucked…

Can You Find Cooper?

Not D.B. Cooper, just Cooper The Cat. We typically don't do this on the front page of Wallyhood (see Forums / Lost and Found on the menu up above), but we imagine the cat is not loving the weather and the picture is adorbs, so we figured to heck with journalistic standards and pride (sort of a daily ritual for us.) Anyhow, Elizabeth writes: Cooper is an incredibly friendly and curious guy, who likes to climb into open sheds and garages.  He also…
