A Little Library For Little People

In the land of neighborhood karma, Mark just pulled off perfection. He writes: I've just put up Seattle's first (?) Tiny Free Library, a little free library just for pre schoolers. I did it because I wasn't seeing a lot of kids' books in the existing community library for our two kids (nearly 3 and nearly 4). So this is small, just big enough for board books, and at around the right height for toddlers. Be great if families started to use it.…

50th Street Deli Market To Be Redeveloped

You can finally get rid of your VHS player- despite years of advertising to the contrary, the 50th street Deli Market is not going to restock with $0.98 video tapes. Thanks to Todd for passing this info on to us: Looks like 50th Street Market building is being torn down and replaced with 17 “efficiency apartments” in a 3-story building. Goodbye to my Cascade views but hopefully new retail in the building will not sell alcohol to attract drunk vagrants. Store owner…

Real Estate Report

(This is a sponsored post by Kris Murphy and Daniela Dombrowski, Wallingford realtors) Bidding wars continue to be the norm rather than the exception in our Wallingford & Tangletown neighborhoods as well as rest of the region. Questions for the District 4 and 6 City Council Finalists?

We're looking to create an updated Wallyhood candidate Q&A for the general election, with these goals: Surface differences between the candidates Where possible, cover Wallingford specific (District 4) or Tangletown / Fremont specific (District 6) issues Cover the key areas of revenue reform, transportation, low income housing, neighborhood planning, and priorities For District 4 (Wallingford) our primary Q&A favored Tony Provine in online votes. Unfortunately, Wallyhood doesn't have the pull of the simple minded socialists at The Stranger, who we wish would move…

Teacher’s Union Negotiation Update

The Seattle Education Association had a membership meeting last night, including not just teachers but specialists, aides and office workers - really everyone who interacts with kids at SPS. The union and the district have been negotiating since May but have decided nothing much at all so far, about 2 weeks before the start of the school year. Kind of a bad position to be in- ideally there'd be a contract to vote on at this point, even if the vote…
