Young neighbor raising money for friend with brain cancer

Savannah, a seven year-old Wallingford neighbor, is raising money for brain cancer research in honor of her friend, Torin, who has been battling brain cancer for the last two years. Savannah and her mom, Margie, will be taking part in a 3k walk during the Run of Hope Seattle 2011 at Seward Park, and she hopes to raise $1,000 in donations from friends, family, and neighbors. Interlake Public School Days

Ever wonder what Wallingford Center used to be before it was Wallingford Center? Spin back the clock to 1904, and you'll find them opening the Interlake Public School, the first school in Wallingford (Latona followed in 1906 and Lincoln in 1907). Interlake closed its doors in 1971 (leaving the building vacant for 15 years: and you thought the Festering Pit at Stone Way and 40th was an eyesore!), so, if we do our math right, that means that students in the…

Word from Cat

A reader wrote in about bumping into Real Change vendor Cat outside the PCC in Fremont and asked us follow up with her about where she's been recently, and why she's left her spot in front of Bartell Drugs. Cat sent us an update providing insight into the jockeying for locations which goes on among our street community: To answer your query as to why I moved my selling location from the Wallingford Bartell's [sic] to the Fremont PCC  I will do…
