Early Childhood Education Resource

Wallyhood is proudly unveiling its newest neighborhood resource, this one for parents and those wishing they were. We now have an Early Childhood Education round-up of the preschool programs of Wallingford. Our neighborhood is blessed with some very talented and passionate educators. It was my pleasure to tour these facilities and see first hand the top quality education opportunities that are right in our back yard. This project, covering seven preschools and two day care centers with preschool programs, highlights the…

Senior Center Verdict Reached: It’s a Go!

Originally uploaded by MTM Photography After much deliberation, it looks like Wallingford's much-loved Senior Center is here to stay! The Board and executive director have worked to develop a sustainable business model over the past month that they’ll put to use in 2010. The community's significant financial support and an anonymous resident's matching challenge grant of $25,000 majorly contributed to keeping their doors open, says the Board. At this time, the center plans to restart select programs in April and to tentatively restore all services…

It's official. We just got word from Anne Radford at the Washington State Liquor Control Board that they'll be re-opening a liquor store in Wallingford at...118 N.E. 45th St! That's where the Hollywood Video used to be, right across from Dick's. On the grim side, this means that there will be a full service liquor store just blocks from the I-5 entrance ramps, where homeless alcoholics have established permanent residence. On the bright side, Dick's milkshakes + Cointreau = Crazy Delicious.…

As the owner of the Yoga Life studios in Green Lake and Queen Anne, he had experience driving projects like this to completion, and he was…

[...] here's this guy's M.O.:  he usually has a NY accent, says he's from Alaska (he's real friendly, see), and his 8-month pregnant wife is sitting in a coffee shop down the street, and she has all the receipts in her purse.  this is after he's scouted the premises, found a…

The long empty property at 2221 N 45th St where Walt's Muffler used to be (across from the Taco Time) is getting a new lease on life (or at least a new lease). Chris writes: Just got back from dinner at the Golden Olive, one of our n'hood faves, and saw that the Walt's Muffler building has been leased to a new auto repair business. Ward & I met Brian, the owner, as he was preparing to open for business in…

Rancho Bravo Repairs

We've got an update for you all on the fire at the Rancho Bravo Taco truck. Freddy Rivas, the owner responded: We did have an incident that will need some exterior repair work done, most likely off site.  It was the result of a design oversight by the builders.  Luckily there was no damage to the interior of the unit and it should be a relatively simple fix.  We're going to need to replace the extractor fan.  In the meantime we…
