Coming soon: La Casa Azul

Well we knew, based on the fresh new coat of blue paint, that something new would be taking over the old Selena's Guadalajara place; but reader Joan let us know this morning that she spotted a sign in the window that said "La Casa Azul" is opening soon. La Casa Azul already has locations in Greenwood and Shoreline, and they serve breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays, from 8am to 1pm. Click here to check out their website. La Casa Azul's Wallingford…

Cantinetta Block Party Tonight

Tuscany has long had a special place in our heart. When we left our 10 year gig at large Redmond-based software concern 4 years ago, we rented our house, packed a few changes of clothes in our backpacks and took off for Europe for a few months. We meandered our way down through France, into northern Spain, bopped over to Berlin, but spent the bulk of time in central Italy. It was exactly what we needed: slow food, slow cities, timeless…

Satay featured on The Food Network

Add one more food establishment to the growing list Wallingford "celebrestaurants" -- now it's Satay's turn to be in the spotlight on The Food Network. On Monday night, June 27, "Meat and Potatoes" will feature an episode called "Meat on a Stick." Tune in and find out what Chef Rahm Fama thinks about Satay's spicy, sweet beef sataya. Patrons will have access to both dining areas from a back passageway, in addition to both storefront entrances. I spoke with owner Karen Law today who said she hopes the new space will be open in the next week or so. I snapped a…

Adios, Selena’s

We just heard from Kara Ceriello of Not a Number that Selena's Guadalajara is leaving Wallingford, and TOMORROW may be their very last day.  Kara wrote: They're all done here in Wallingford by the end of the month - I announced this at yesterday's chamber meeting, to loud gasps - and we just heard they may have decided that TOMORROW, Saturday, is their very last day! Then, to make matters worse, she told us about an incident that happened this afternoon,…

Health tips from…Taco Time!?

Of all the fast food places in Seattle, Wallingford has a Taco Time housed in a building that looks more like a bank than a restaurant. And, not just any old bank mind you, but a 1980s throwback, complete with pink neon accoutrements. It's amazing how awkward that building looks when you compare it to the row of charming shops to the west; yet I can attest it's a busy place during lunchtime, which is why our neighborhood's Taco Time is…
