Pour House Opens Tonight

(This post originally appeared on My Green Lake, who totally scooped us) After Tangletown’s beloved Luau Polynesian Lounge (2253 North 56th St) closed its doors on January 26, rumor had it that it was to be replaced by a cocktail lounge. Excitement grew once word got out that Pour House, a bar and dining spot billed as “upscale casual without the pretension” was coming soon to the corner of N 56th St and Kirkwood Pl N. Tonight (Tuesday, March 16, 2010),…

Irwin’s – Wallingford’s Economic Engine of Tasty Goodness

Irwin’s was a life saver when my wife and I first moved to Wallingford last summer. It’s not too far from our house –and anyone that’s moved knows that a good cup of coffee and something (like a delicious baked good) to get the muscles moving are important ingredients in getting settled in a new house and neighborhood. On top of that – I work from home – and I NEEDED internet access right away. I was the shabbily dressed guy…

Rancho Bravo Repairs

We've got an update for you all on the fire at the Rancho Bravo Taco truck. Freddy Rivas, the owner responded: We did have an incident that will need some exterior repair work done, most likely off site.  It was the result of a design oversight by the builders.  Luckily there was no damage to the interior of the unit and it should be a relatively simple fix.  We're going to need to replace the extractor fan.  In the meantime we…

New Life at the Jitterbug?

Lots of folks have noticed that there's been some activity at the old Loki Cafe / Jitterbug / Beeliner Diner space (2114 N 45th Street): new windows going on, clean-up. Could this mean a new restaurant in our midst? Unfortunately, we have nothing to report. Margaret tried calling Chow Foods, who own the lease, and they wouldn't comment. Previously, they've said that the spot will be used as a "test kitchen and office", which makes little sense to us, given its…

Much Ado About Food

Gas Works Park was buzzing with 50+ chefs on Tuesday morning -- all from big name restaurants throughout the city.  The backdrop served as a place to film a promotional video for Seattle Restaurant Week, which makes its debut April 18-29.  During that week, over 100 restaurants citywide will be serving three course dinners for $25, and many will also serve three course lunches for $15.  Wallingford restaurants Avila, Ivar's Salmon House, Joule, and Tilth will participate in the promotion. Seattle…

Rancho Bravo Improva

Eagle-eyed tipsters from around the 'hood spotted changes afoot at the city's finest taco truck, Rancho Bravo Tacos. For some time now, a newer, larger truck has been waiting in the wings, parked next door in the Golden Oldies lot, and it looks like her time has come to shine. Jrotech snapped this shot of the transformation in action: No word yet from Freddy Rivas, the owner, on what the plan is for the old Winchell's.

A Paean to Mille Grane

First, let us be clear: the Essential Baking Company Café is open for business, with no plans to change. The bakery, however, she has passed into that faraway land we euphemistically call Cloverleaf. Actually, that's not a euphemism. Cloverleaf is an area by Georgetown, and, as we reported back in December, EBC purchased the Parisian Desserts Company down there a few years back. As of last week, they finished consolidating all their baking operations at that facility. What this means for…
