Much Ado About Food

Gas Works Park was buzzing with 50+ chefs on Tuesday morning -- all from big name restaurants throughout the city.  The backdrop served as a place to film a promotional video for Seattle Restaurant Week, which makes its debut April 18-29.  During that week, over 100 restaurants citywide will be serving three course dinners for $25, and many will also serve three course lunches for $15.  Wallingford restaurants Avila, Ivar's Salmon House, Joule, and Tilth will participate in the promotion. Seattle…

Rancho Bravo Improva

Eagle-eyed tipsters from around the 'hood spotted changes afoot at the city's finest taco truck, Rancho Bravo Tacos. For some time now, a newer, larger truck has been waiting in the wings, parked next door in the Golden Oldies lot, and it looks like her time has come to shine. Jrotech snapped this shot of the transformation in action: No word yet from Freddy Rivas, the owner, on what the plan is for the old Winchell's.

A Paean to Mille Grane

First, let us be clear: the Essential Baking Company Café is open for business, with no plans to change. The bakery, however, she has passed into that faraway land we euphemistically call Cloverleaf. Actually, that's not a euphemism. Cloverleaf is an area by Georgetown, and, as we reported back in December, EBC purchased the Parisian Desserts Company down there a few years back. As of last week, they finished consolidating all their baking operations at that facility. What this means for…

From the ashes of the Luau…

Goodbye Luau, hello Pour House! Yep, it was just weeks ago that the Luau Polynesian Lounge in Tangletown closed for good, but the new owners, Jay Farias and Erik Knutson, are already hard at work on remodeling its replacement, the Pour House Bar & Dining. We learn from Nancy Leeson at the Seattle Times that: Farias owned the Nickerson Street Saloon for a decade and later opened Joe's on Roosevelt (now the Roosevelt Ale House). His latest venture, Stix, a bastion…

Tilth Chef Master

Hot on the heels of Joule's Rachel and Seif's appearance on Iron Chef last month (they lost, but neighborhood consensus has it they were robbed), Maria Hines of Wallingford's Tilth will be on the second season of Bravo TV's Top Chef Masters. We haven't been able to figure out when the episode will appear, but we promise to let you know as soon as we do. OK, the truth is, we get kind of confused with television. The whole idea that…

Smash in Emerald City Eats

You've probably seen those new group coupon services popping up: Groupon, LivingSocial, etc.: they offer the opportunity to buy coupons at local establishments for steep discounts for a limited time (usually the deal is only offered for a single day). We mentioned LivingSocial's "$100 coupon for $50" Cantinetta deal a little while back, for example. A new one focusing exclusively on Seattle restaurants just launched, Emerald City Eats, and today's deal is for $75 worth of food and drink at Wallingford's…
