Ivar’s Whalemaker Lounge gets a makeover

It's o-fish-al! After s three-month remodel, the Whalemaker Lounge at Ivar's Salmon House (401 NE Northlake Way) has re-opened for business. The snazzy new lounge has a whole new interior, including expanded seating, plus they've flipped the bar 90 degrees to the right and extended it, topping it with a copper. The folks over at Ivar's tells us the lounge also has more water views, and the fireplace, which might have an updated fireplace tile, has river rock masonry with “KEEP…

Big Wheel Panini

You could call it "Big Wheel Panini" since it's adjacent to Big Wheel Auto Parts (4455 Stone Way N.), or you could call it "Pat's Panini Sandwiches" after its owner, Pat. Either way, Pat won't mind since he hasn't officially named his new hot panini sandwich stand, which is now open Mondays through Saturdays, from 10:00am to 6:00pm. Pat offers five different types of hot panini sandwiches, all for $5 each, except for the Grilled Cheese, which is only $4. Prices include…

Lucky Break: Sidewalk Cafe

If there's one thing Wallingford (and Seattle) doesn't have enough of, it's sidewalk cafes. Sure, the weather renders them inhospitable for 9/10ths of the year, but oh, that other 1/10th, sitting in the sunshine and watching the world go by, chatting with your neighbors: heaven on earth. So we reveled in the news that Ken L. just sent us: Walking past Silver Tray this morning I noticed the SDOT application for a sidewalk cafe permit taped to their door. It sure…

Westward/Little Gull Grocery

Seattle Met and Eater Seattle report that Skillet founder Josh Henderson is planning to open up a restaurant and grocery store on North Lake Union this summer. Westward and Little Gull Grocery will be right on the waterfront (in fact, with its own 156 ft dock!) conveniently located off the Burke Gilman Trail, at Eastern on Northlake (2501 Northlake Way). The space was called The Lakeside in a former life and it held special events like weddings and proms and all that.…

Tutta Bella adds a ‘Jewel Box’ lounge

If you're a lover of Tutta Bella's Neapolitan-style pizza, but not so much a fan of the family-friendly atmosphere, you might want to stop by and check out their new glassed-in bar area, dubbed "The Jewel Box", which officially opened this week. The Jewel Box is located on the NW side of the building, with easy access from the N. Allen Place entrance. The area has seating and standing room for up to 24 people, and the new bar adds cocktails…

Gluten Free Wallingford

I'm writing this having just returned from a brief trip to Portland, which absolutely blew me away with the ubiquity of gluten-free food options: it seemed like every restaurant, bakery, cafe and food cart had at least explicit gluten-free options, if not an entire menu of gluten-free food. Back home in Wallingford, we're catching up: We heard from Tilth that they'll be offering a gluten-free and a vegan menu: Maria Hines is ... offering a vegan and gluten-free a la carte and tasting…
