Westward/Little Gull Grocery

Seattle Met and Eater Seattle report that Skillet founder Josh Henderson is planning to open up a restaurant and grocery store on North Lake Union this summer. Westward and Little Gull Grocery will be right on the waterfront (in fact, with its own 156 ft dock!) conveniently located off the Burke Gilman Trail, at Eastern on Northlake (2501 Northlake Way). The space was called The Lakeside in a former life and it held special events like weddings and proms and all that.…

Tutta Bella adds a ‘Jewel Box’ lounge

If you're a lover of Tutta Bella's Neapolitan-style pizza, but not so much a fan of the family-friendly atmosphere, you might want to stop by and check out their new glassed-in bar area, dubbed "The Jewel Box", which officially opened this week. The Jewel Box is located on the NW side of the building, with easy access from the N. Allen Place entrance. The area has seating and standing room for up to 24 people, and the new bar adds cocktails…

Gluten Free Wallingford

I'm writing this having just returned from a brief trip to Portland, which absolutely blew me away with the ubiquity of gluten-free food options: it seemed like every restaurant, bakery, cafe and food cart had at least explicit gluten-free options, if not an entire menu of gluten-free food. Back home in Wallingford, we're catching up: We heard from Tilth that they'll be offering a gluten-free and a vegan menu: Maria Hines is ... offering a vegan and gluten-free a la carte and tasting…

Wallingford – Leading the City in Veg Consumption

Are you an observer of Meatless Monday, a flexitarian, or otherwise reducing your meat consumption? If so, you apparently are not alone! Seattle Times news librarian Gene Balk recently analyzed Seattle’s consumer spending habits and the availability of meat-free cuisine by neighborhood, determining that Wallingford ranks first in the city for its love of veggies. Yep. We eat our five daily servings here in the 'hood, out-munching runners-up Fremont, Ballard, Greenlake and Queen Anne. A stroll along 45th Street with vegetarian main…

Kitaro Update

We'd like to thank Reeve Baily for providing us with the following update on Kitaro, (1624 N. 45th St.) which had been destroyed by a fire on the night of December 7, 2011: Last week my wife and I were standing in line at Molly Moon's when the communal chatter came to the subject of the sadly crumbling Kitaro Sushi/Bento. "I heard that grumpy dude took the insurance money and moved to Belize," said one fellow. "No, no, no, the owners…

Silver Tray Opens Tomorrow

Ambling home down 45th St last night, we noticed some work going on in the old Lotus Thai at the corner of Meridian, which closed back in January. Turns out the man screwing in light bulbs at 10 o'clock at night was Apple, part of the husband and wife team that bought the business when the owners of Lotus Thai retired. Apple arrived in the US from Thailand on September 9, 2001 (yep, that September) and his wife Lucky arrived shortly…

Lotus Thai Closed For Remodeling. Under New Management.

Have you noticed that Lotus Thai (2101 North 45th Street) is closed? Wallyhood reader, Neil, tells us his wife spotted the sign on the door and paper on the windows, so we did some calling and got the scoop: The restaurant is now under new management, and we spoke to the new owner, Lucky, who told us that they're closed for remodeling. They hope to re-open some time in February, with a shiny, new name, "Silver Tray".
