Roosevelt High School

Continuing our series of schools within the Wallingford attendance area, here's a look at Roosevelt High School. Roosevelt High School (1410 NE 66th St.) is located in the Roosevelt neighborhood, just a block north of 65th and Roosevelt.  We include it in our school series because it is our attendance area high school; however, for those 8th graders in the Advanced Placement Program (APP) at Hamilton International Middle School, a new APP program will begin at Ingraham High School in September…

Hamilton International Middle School

Continuing with our series of school profiles within the Wallingford attendance area, here's a look at Hamilton International Middle School for grades 6-8. Hamilton International Middle School has a student population of 850, which can make incoming 6th graders who were previously regarded as big fish in their elementary school ponds feel like tiny minnows in a vast ocean.  But the staff at Hamilton know this, which is why the first day of school is reserved only for welcoming 6th grade…

B.F. Day School

Continuing our series on Wallingford attendance area Seattle Public Schools, here's a look at Seattle's oldest continually operating school in Seattle:  B.F. Day. Founded in 1892, B.F. Day School in Fremont was built on a block of 20 lots generously donated by landowner Benjamin Franklin Day who asked that educators build not only a school, but a good school.  We feature B.F. Day here because it is a linked school, which means that if you opt out of the language immersion…

Salmon Bay K-8 School

As open enrollment approaches for Seattle Public Schools for next fall, parents are filling up their calendars with open houses and school tours.  While your child will be officially assigned to one of our neighborhood schools, you still have the choice to apply to other schools within the district; so we thought it might be helpful to provide information we've gathered during school tours and turn it into a multi-part series, beginning with our first installment:  Salmon Bay K-8, which is…

Small increase decided for SPS full-day Kindergarten

We reported yesterday that Seattle Public Schools asked parents of incoming Kindergarteners to fill out a survey about raising tuition for full day Kindergarten.  The results of the survey were shared today with the School Board during a budget work session to determine next steps for raising Kindergarten tuition. The Board decided to raise the tuition only to $30 more per month in the 2011-12 school year, instead of the $100 they suggested in the online survey. According to Seattle Public…

Wallybits: Seattle Schools Edition

Last week, School Superintendent Maria Goodloe-Johnson released a statement to all Seattle Public School families about the $36.6 million dollar budget shortfall for the 2011-12 school year.  As a consequence, the School Board is faced with making decisions about what to fund and what to cut.  Right now, there are two action items that require immediate public attention:  one is for Seattle Public School families and the other is for homeowners citywide. Today, Seattle Public Schools released a survey for parents…
