A Friend-ly Reminder from Friends of McDonald School

Just a reminder to those participating in the Friends of McDonald playground structure project: another meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 27, to make the final selection for playground equipment.  The meeting is free and all are welcome to take part in the decision-making process.  The meeting will take place at Green Lake Elementary, from 7-9 p.m. and refreshments will be served. If all goes well, Friends will hold a cleanup and installation gathering on June 26-27, and then a…

Hamilton Construction Update

Shhh, listen…do you hear that?  That’s the sound of birdsong.  And for the first time in a year and a half, that lovely sound isn’t being drowned out by heavy machinery for 8 hours at a stretch.  To quote one of my most memorable eighth grade reading assignments, it’s “All Quiet on the Western Front.” That’s because the majority of the construction crew at Hamilton has moved inside the building to complete the finishing work, while only a few workers remain…

Hamilton Construction Update

A few months back, a Wallyhood reader had commented on the use of single-paned windows versus double-paned for the sake of energy efficiency at Hamilton.  I spoke with Michael Romero from Heery (the Hamilton construction manager) and he informed me that due to Landmark Commission guidelines regarding replacement windows, all of the original 1926 windows and panes were left intact, with the exception of those that were broken or cracked.  Each window was taken down, tagged, and sent to a window…
