Wallingford Art Walk

Wednesday is the second Wednesday of the month, and thus, from 6 - 9 pm, Wallingford Art Walk. As always, we welcome pre-clues about what's going on, which we will happily share here. Here's what we know, via Colleen Kurke, organizer: The Wallingford Center Plaza will feature "The East Street Band" from 6:30 to 8PM. Also some businesses will have art displayed. Maps will be at the plaza that evening. Easy Street is a 9-piece Jazz Swing Band with an outstanding female…

(Little Free) Book Lust

To my complete delight, I discovered a new (blue!) little free library in lower Wallingford recently. This prompted me to visit each of Wallingford's Little Free Libraries (or at least the ones known to this blog). I was surprised to find NONE between 40th and 45th Streets. Can this really be true? Please leave a comment if you know of one that's missing! For more on Wallingford's LFLs, including addresses, see our previous post.

Clips of Faith: Film Shorts and Flowing Beer

Hey, remember a couple weeks back when the Clips of Faith Film Festival came through Gas Works Park? Hailey Way from the UW News Lab was kind enough to share her experience: After a warm day in Seattle, the sun perched on the horizon, lighting Gas Works Park last Friday evening. As soon as the sun went down, with beers in hand, attendees of the New Belgium Brewing Clips of Faith tour nestled into picnic blankets to watch homemade film shorts…

Obliteride brings Michael Franti & Spearhead to Gas Works

The first-ever Obliteride, a charity bike ride benefitting cancer research through the Fred Hutch, kicks off tomorrow night, Friday August 9th with an opening night celebration at Gas Works Park featuring Michael Franti and Spearhead. Now, there are lots of different kinds of people in Wallingford: The Lycra Set read that sentence, and thought "charity bike ride! How long and where do I sign up?" The Aging Bleeding Hearts said "oh, cancer research! Can I donate without riding?" Whatever set I…

B.F. Day Gets A New Playground

B.F. Day families will be treated to a new playground  on school campus this fall, thanks in part to Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, King County Parks, private donations, the Fremont community and Chamber of Commerce, and the B.F. Day PTSA. While construction officially began on August 1, the playground committee is seeking a few volunteers to help with the equipment installation during the weekend of September 14-15. If you want to lend a hand, contact Kristin Anderson at [email protected].

Design Review Recap

Many thanks to Kristen, et al, who attended the Tully's/Moon Temple Lot Design Review meeting on Monday night. Here's a recap from Kristen: I just returned to the meeting and it went amazingly well. I would guess there were 60-70 people there from the community, in a hot and stuffy room. The architects presented their designs (starting with an irrelevant presentation on the firm's background and previous projects: malls, giant hotels, stadiums), the board asked a few questions and then the…
