Raffling for Japan

Boy, oh, boy, the fifth grade Japanese language-track students at John Stanford International are lucky ducks. Not only will they have been immersed in Japanese for 6 years by the time they enter sixth grade, but they'll also have the chance to visit Japan for some real cultural immersion, which, for most of us, is an opportunity of a lifetime! But, as you can imagine, a big trip like that can be pretty costly, and the kids rely entirely on fundraising…

Coming Soon: ZoomCare

A new neighborhood healthcare clinic, called ZoomCare, is coming to Wallingford in December, at 4555 Stone Way North (next to Verity Credit Union). The Portland, Oregon-based chain of clinics offers a board-certified clinical team, consisting of physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants providing primary care for illnesses, injuries, and preventative healthcare. There's a ZoomCare operating on Capitol Hill and so far, folks have had positive things to say about it on Yelp, primarily that appointment scheduling (even same day) is a piece of…

Sandwich shop coming to Doggy Style space

Doggy Style East Coast Hot Dog stand came and went, but from its ashes (4455 Stone Way N) a sandwich shop is growing. I noticed someone working inside the space on Monday and met Pat, local to the neighborhood, who hopes to have his sandwich shop--name TBD--open in four weeks. I, for one, adore walk-up/bike-up food establishments (no need to lock up the bike or unload the kiddos) and while I regrettably never made it to Doggy Style, I can't wait…

We didn't have a crew to march with, but figured we'd just go looking for a similarly sized set and make ourselves at home. Lucky us, when we broke through the crowd onto the parade route, our eyes tracked up the very long legs 10' tall Joselynn Engstrom to her welcoming smile. We had a…

After more than a decade of service to the neighborhood, the WNA Board voted to dissolve last month. A family-friendly, free performance involving a 12' tall blue Victorian house, a family of singing bears, and a bunch of gnomes, is taking place at Gas Works Park this Sunday (November 11) beginning at 1:30pm.
