Woodlawn Santa Update

When I answered my phone today, and the person on the other end gave a rousing, "Ho ho ho!" I knew Sharon Ehrig was doin' o-kay.  And she is! Also known as "Woodlawn Santa," Sharon Ehrig is one of the bright lights in Wallingford.   I know some of you are waiting to hear how Sharon is doing after her breast cancer surgery, so I'll just say it:  she's doing great!  The surgery did not reveal any new concerns or problems.  Yay! …

It's been an awful long time since we talked about graffiti here on Wallyhood (some would argue not long enough). But, every couple of weeks, we like to draw your attention to some interesting conversations happening in the Wallyhood Forums. This week, it sounds like there's been a resurgence in graffiti after a quiet spell (which, in turn, was likely due to Zeb's incarceration). We had no trouble tracking its slow arc through our thick spectacles, the bat seemed to just swing itself and the pleasant crack of wood on leather sent a thrilling jolt up through our arms and into our torso. The…

Satay . . . Slightly Delayed

It was a tough job but someone had to do it. Yesterday I got the call on my Wallyhood bat-phone that Satay (1711 N. 45th St.) had opened and someone had to go over there for lunch and get pictures.  Not one to balk at a challenge, I grabbed my trusty little Canon and headed down 45th Street . . . Peter, a co-owner, greeted me at the cash register.  The menu is simple:  four types of satay, three "dishes" (wok-fried…
