Giving Postal a Good Name

We typically hear the worst when it comes to post offices and those employed therein, so we thought it worthwhile to share a bit of the other side of the coin. Steve wrote in with his great experience at the Wallingford Post Office on Wednesday: I stopped off at the Wallingford Post Office last night at 6:35pm to use the self-service kiosk to buy stamps for my Christmas cards and to mail a small package.  Even though it was a half…

Hamilton Construction Update

Over the past few months, we've seen visible progress at Hamilton that includes a nifty, new addition where there was once an old, unused parking lot littered with broken glass.  Despite the noisy, truck-filled chaos on our street (it's really not that bad), I'm fond of the new improvements and look forward to attending the open house in September.  If you've ever gone to Hamilton to vote, you'll remember how dark and dreary the auditorium felt.  But the new improvements include wide…

Santa Comes to Woodlawn Ave.

For about fifteen years now, Sharon and Fred Ehrig @ 3916 Woodlawn have put together one of the most spectacular yard displays of Christmas lights in Wallingford.  With 15,000 lights, reindeer (with personlized saddles), snowmen, candy canes, a rubber ducky gate, teddy bears and elves -- you just gotta see this house. And the best part -- Santa.  Santa visits the porch every night from 5-9pm through December 23rd.  He hopes to stay until 11pm on the 23rd so everyone who…

Solsticio

The past week or so, Wallyhood readers have been treated to posts about Gypsy Cafe and (sort of) Essential Baking.  So, in the spirit of covering all the coffee shops in a single 2 block radius, we'd like to tell you about Solsticio at 34th & Stone Way.  They're not strictly Wallingford -- but they're only a few feet on the wrong side of the boundary, so we'll think of them as Fremont-on-the-cusp-of-Wallingford. Solsticio opened October 1st in the old Speedy Reedy…
