New Development on 45th

A new 3-story mixed-use building is going up at 100 NE 45th St. Demolition of the existing building (a satellite space rented by Seattle Stained Glass) is scheduled to begin this week. The new structure will be a modern Seattle-style box consisting of 4 live/work units and 2 residential townhomes. Roland Development is spearheading the project.

Live/work units are essentially condos stacked on top of a ground floor that is intended to function as a small office or studio. The idea is to attract small business owners to live directly above their licensed and operational business. This type of setup …

SNAP Training and Disaster Response Organizing

SNAP (Seattle Neighborhoods Actively Prepare) is a city program designed to help nighborhods help themselves in the event of an emergency. Toolkits and presentation materials are available online to help you and neighbors get organized.

EV Come, EV Go

Back in January, I wrote about a City Light program to install electric vehicle (EV) chargers in 10-15 locations throughout the city. One of the chosen locations was Gas Works Park, and work was slated for completion by late Spring or early Summer of this year. I get down to Gas Works quite frequently, but I haven’t seen the charging station. And that is easily explained by the fact that it just isn’t there.

That Knock at Your Door May Be the US Census

You may have seen the signs, both in Seattle and elsewhere, seeking temporary workers to conduct the door-to-door portion of the 2020 US Census. Even as the census bureau beats the bushes looking for workers, census activities are ongoing and have been since August.

While the official US head count will not begin until next year, the census bureau conducts many other types of surveys, and the city of Seattle wants you to know your rights if someone purporting to be from the census comes around.
