Jordan September 20, 2019 2 Comments

Tomorrow night, a dark coven will gather under the trees at Green Lake to elect a new high priest and ultimately to cast lots for the fate of the…

Wait, sorry. That’s not right. Saturday, 6 – 10 pm at Green Lake, you’ll find n0t the Illuminati, but Luminata, a gentle and luminous celebration of the autumnal equinox:

The Fremont Arts Council will celebrate the autumnal equinox on September 21st at Green Lake Park to bid farewell to summer and move gently into autumn with our annual illuminated celebration.

Toulouse, missing cat

UPDATE: Toulouse has been returned.

Cats, especially the indoor-outdoor cat popular in Wallingford, disappear sometimes. Cars, coyotes and other calamities each take their toll. It’s also the case that Wallingford has more than its fair share of porch pirates, pinching packages fresh from Amazon’s delivery service.

But pinching a cat is just beyond the pale. And yet, Frederic posted these photos taken by security camera from this past Friday the 13th of someone doing exactly that to his dear cat Toulouse, along with this explanation.

Eating News

Jordan September 18, 2019 Comments are off

Two small eats notes:

Work is underway at the old Wallyburger on 45th St. When Wallyburger closed back in June, they posted to their Instagram feed that there would another venture in the same space this Fall. Fall is just about upon us, and wandering by the other night, I snapped this photo of the transformation underway inside.

The Grass Harp and Other Lonely Books

Jordan September 16, 2019 3 Comments

It’s been about nine months since we added our own Little Free Library to the mosquito fleet of literary largesse that speckles the neighborhood. I was particularly proud of the solar-powered lighting system that would make late-night book browsing an option for the cultured dog-walker out for an evening perambulatory peruse, and also of the little surrealist diorama I nestled amongst the books (pictured at right.)

Part of the fun has been curating the collection: we have boxes of books we’ve enjoyed over the years that we trickle out onto the shelves, but we also make sure that there’s room …

Wallingford Farmer’s Market Last Day September 25th

Ben Robinson September 14, 2019 1 Comment

Every year I assume the Farmer’s Market closes for the season on Labor Day. Every year I am wrong. So if you feared you missed the last Farmer’s Market, you are in luck.

The final week for the Farmer’s Market is September 25th. Thanks so Kelli Diann Billips, the operations manager for the Seattle Farmers Market Association, for confirming the date.

The job of this post was done with the headline, but to add a little more content to justify clicking the link, here is an interesting passage from the Vendor manual:

SFMA requires all prepared food vendors to contain, …
