No Pit Update

A number of people have e-mailed, noting hopefully that there appears to be construction activity going on at the Festering Pit™ on the corner of 40th and Stone Way. Sorry folks, as previously mentioned, the development company is doing some maintenance on the site, like shoring up the eastern retaining wall, but that's it, pending funding.

Poetry refresh needed (free bag of coffee!)

Back in July, you may remember that we blogged about how much we liked the fact that Open Books: A Poetry Emporium (2414 N. 45th St.) always has a poem in their window, tucked into an old manual typewriter as if freshly thought. Well, walking by the other day, we were disappoined to note that here in late September, it's still the same poem. What gives, Open Books? Are you having trouble finding another poem you think Wallingford would enjoy? Well,…

Wurst Round-up and Photos

We hope you made it over to the Wallingford Wurst Festival this past weekend. I am so done with this f***ing house" and "Nothing of mine was jacked, I don't think--and everyone is ok. But roomie…

Shaken

I'm feeling a bit shaken. Baby Z and I were walking back from the Wurst Festival about an hour ago, marveling at how packed Wallingford, when I looked across the street and saw a woman lying in the middle of the road, just off 45th on Sunnyside, outside the Erotic Bakery. We ran over (or hopped, my ACL is torn and running isn't possible, baby Z's stroller serves as my walker) and arrived at the same moment as a man from…

The Wallingford Senior Center, housed in the Good Shepherd Center, will be closing its doors effective November 1st. King 5 reports: The 1,500 seniors served at Wallingford Senior Center will have to find somewhere else to play bridge, share a meal or learn computers.
