Wallyhood Flavor Gelato Contest Winners

Margaret April 30, 2010 7 Comments

The Wallyhood Newsroom has been abuzz all afternoon, as we prepare to announce the winner of our Fainting Goat Gelato/Wallyhood Flavor contest!  But before we do, let’s talk about our Readers Choice award and the week-long dead heat between Squirrel Swirl and Chocolate Chipotle Chai.  Great to know our neighbors love a good spicy flavor and our neighborhood’s vermin woodland creatures.

In the end, though, readers picked Chocolate Chipotle Chai between the two.  Our congratulations goes to Nicole for her innovative flavor!

And our winning Wallyhood flavor as chosen by Fainting Goat Gelato is Honey Rose, by Erica Doctor!…

May we thank…

Jordan April 30, 2010 2 Comments

Every once in a while, we like to thank the many fine businesses that help keep the lights on over here at Wallyhood, our sponsors.

We’ve got one new one to add to the list this month, Smash Wine Bar and Bistro, which, in addition to serving organic produce, natural meats, a happy hour everyday and all day on Sunday, over 30 wines by the glass as well as full bar and beer, distinguishes itself by having one of the few outdoor patios not only in Wallingford, but Seattle. Perfect spot for some people watching over a summer evening cocktail. …

There are a couple of ways you can participate:

Quasi-Pagan Fun

Jordan April 30, 2010 1 Comment

Kimberly writes:

My Morris dance troupe (Sound and Fury Morris) will be at Gasworks Park again this year to dance the sun-up on May Day (this Saturday, May 1st). We’d love to invite the neighborhood to join us for some quasi-pagan fun, heralding the coming summer and making sure the crops grow well.

What can you expect at 5:30 am this Saturday? Four teams of Anglophile dancers dressed in their finest kits, dancing to live music (including several accordions, a banjo, drums and at least one tuba) with bells strapped to their legs and handkerchiefs or sticks grasped …

Neighborhood Wading Pools Face Possible Closure

Margaret April 29, 2010 3 Comments

On Tuesday, King 5 reported the possible closure of two community centers and three swimming pools this summer, along with several of the wading pools citywide.  Faced with budget reductions, former superintendent Tim Gallagher told King 5 “24 of the 27 public wading pools may close in June.”

Wallyhood contacted the Aquatics Office of Seattle Parks and Rec this morning, and spoke with Kerrie Stoops, acting coordinator for Mounger Pool in Magnolia to find out if our beloved Wallingford wading pool would be closed all summer.  Stoops said that the Wallingford wading pool is still scheduled to open on June …
