Farmers Market Returns for 5th Year, Makeover

Erin Leach-Kemon April 21, 2010 12 Comments

The Wallingford Farmers Market will open for its fifth season next month on Wednesday, May 19. Due to expansion and an increased need for customer parking, the Wallingford Center (45th and Wallingford) is now only able to offer market vendors the south section of their parking lot, totaling 24 spaces. This is also the final year that the market will be held at the Center.

In order to accommodate additional vendors, the Wallingford Chamber of Commerce and the Seattle Farmers Market Association plan to expand the market into the parking lane of Wallingford Ave (between N 45th and N 44th), …

Street Scramble

Jordan April 21, 2010 Comments are off

Last July, we noticed an odd phenomenon one weekend in Wallingford. Clusters of people pacing the neighborhood with their noses tucked into maps. Since there’s no greater pleasure than answering questions about something you know, we offered to help these lost souls find whatever it is they were looking for.

Turns out, it was enormous game, a sort of scavenger hunt, where locations were the object, part of the Seattle Street Scramble. 30 Locations around the University District and Wallingford are marked on a map, you and your team visit as many as you can by foot or bike in …

Wallingford Flex Cat Is MIA

Kendall April 21, 2010 13 Comments

Those of you that live in lower Wallingford within five blocks of 37th and Sunnyside, are likely acquainted with a dear feline friend that goes by the name of Bodhi. Now, the name Bodhi means enlightenment, but is more commonly linked to the term awakening.

This cat fits the bill. He is the most zen creature that I have ever encountered. I have had the pleasure of spending some lazy afternoons with him as he parades up and down the sidewalks and pays visits to all that love him- which is just about everyone that has ever met …

Mutt Mitts!

Sharon April 21, 2010 2 Comments

For those who read my previous “Notes From the Playground” posts, you might remember the story of a toddler’s poop-smeared ride down the slide that got a discussion going about needing a Mutt Mitt dispenser at Wallingford Park. Well, the mitts are in, or at least the dispenser is. You can find it at Northwest corner of the park, at 43rd and Woodlawn.

But perhaps more frequent refills are in need? I’ve checked the dispenser a few times over the past couple of weeks and it’s been empty each time. That said, I’m not a dog owner, so if anyone …

Man Crashes Car, Gets Tattoo, Attacks Cop

Jordan April 20, 2010 3 Comments

Wow, would you just look at that headline? Jonah over at SeattleCrime.com really knows how to write ’em. Of course, it helps that that is actually what happened here in Wallingford:

Seattle police arrested a man in Wallingford last week after, a police report says, the man left the scene of an car accident to get a tattoo, and then attacked a police officer.

According to a police report, officers received a report at about 6:45 on April 11th that a driver involved in an accident at 45th and Latona Ave NE was refusing to exchange information, and that the …
