Wallingford Milliner

Jordan December 8, 2010 Comments are off

Anne writes:

I’ve been a Wallingford resident for 24 years and have a millinery studio sale every year.  My annual sale is this coming weekend … please drop by and say hello.  Friday Dec. 10th from 5pm – 9pm and Saturday the 11th from noon until 5pm.  3711 Carr Place N.

You’re probably smarter than we are, so you didn’t have to look up “milliner”, but we did: she makes hats. We always thought that’s what a haberdasher did, but apparently use of the term haberdasher to refer to a hat maker is archaic. Now, it simply refers …

Wallyhood Wine Tasting

Jordan December 7, 2010 6 Comments

Amidst the wine hullabaloo over in East Wallingford, let’s not forget the small, well appointed wine shop City Cellars (1710 North 45th St), which has served up good advice and good wine in downtown Wallingford for over 21 years.

While their usual weekly tastings are on hiatus for December, owner Michael Herndon has offered to host a special, Wallyhood-readers-only wine tasting this Friday, December from 5 – 7 pm. There’s no cost for the tasting, so just stop in with your palatte cleansed and ready. As a bonus, Michael is donating one bottle of the 2008 Delille Cellars D2 …

Candles Will Continue To Glow-Pathway Of Lights

Shannon December 6, 2010 1 Comment

This year’s budget cuts have impacted our community and families in many different ways.  The Green Lake Community Center has been at the center of many of the proposed budget cuts, which could have a big impact on nearby Wallingford.

Pathway Of Lights, though, which had been in jeopardy of being blown out for good due to budget cuts, is saved. This Seattle holiday tradition will continue to glow thanks to two private companies who have already offered to support the event.

According to My Green Lake:

And, while the Pathway of Lights requires more funding than the 2011 budget …

PB&J Latte

Chris Witwer December 6, 2010 8 Comments

No, I’m not drunk.  Yes, this entire post is about a peanut butter and jelly latte.

Never heard of it?  Me neither.  I’ll  admit I’ve ordered more than my share of flavored espresso drinks over the years – everywhere from Austin to Miami to Brussels to Rome.  But I had never, not once, not ever, heard of a “peanut butter and jelly latte.”  Not until I walked past A Muddy Cup’s sandwich board this weekend.

WTF?  So of course, I had to try it.

Matt made my drink & let me pick a “jelly” flavor.  Then I watched him put …

Wallyhood Mug

Jordan December 5, 2010 4 Comments

Mmm…that coffee does taste good, doesn’t it? Ya know what would make it taste better? How about a Wallyhood mug to drink it out of?

Yes, now you can enjoy your Wallyhood blog sipping a hot, locally brewed coffee from genuine Wallyhood drinkware. We’ve ordered a very limited production run of these attractive 11 oz. double-walled ceramic travel mugs with the Wallyhood logo (designed by Wallingford-based designer Heidi Smets) emblazoned on the side. Designed to look like paper take-out cups, they’re actually sturdy, well-insulated travel mugs with a white silicone lid that will keep your drink hot and and your …
