Join the Dragon Quest!

Katy June 12, 2020 Comments are off

On Saturday, June 13th, from 2 to 4 p.m., Wallingford and Fremont will play host to an epic dragon hunt!

B.F. Day School has a yearly fun run/fundraiser for their students, to raise money for the PTSA and promote health and community among the students and families. In 2020, however, special arrangements had to be made. Families are going to be wandering the neighborhood on Saturday afternoon in search of Sunny the Sun Dragon, B.F. Day’s mascot.

If you would like to show support for the school and participate in a fun neighborhood activity for a good cause, please print …

Little Free Pantry

Wallyhood reader Mike wanted to let the neighborhood know about the new Little Free Pantry:

Due to the current pandemic, Wallingford Presbyterian Church has repurposed their Little Free Library into a Little Free Pantry. The mini pantry is located at 1414 N 42nd St. in Wallingford. (One block south of Lincoln High School, corner of 42nd and Ashworth Ave N.) We invite our neighbors to drop by and “take what you need, leave what you can.” The suggested donations are canned protein, shelf-stable meals, granola and protein bars, shelf-stable and powdered milk, shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste and toothbrushes, …

Wallingford and Fremont Community Family-Friendly Protest in support of Black Lives Matter

Katy June 8, 2020 Comments are off

There was a large turnout on Sunday evening in support of Black Lives Matter at the intersection of N 45th St. and Stone Way N. The crowd was peaceful and well-masked, and the reception was overwhelmingly positive, given the number of drivers honking their support as they drove past.

There are two more protests scheduled for this week, one on Wednesday, June 10th from 5:30-8 p.m., and one on Sunday, June 14th from 5:30-8 p.m.…

RIP to Dean Silverstone, Founder of Golden Oldies Records

Katy April 15, 2020 1 Comment

A staple of Wallingford for almost 40 years, the founder and original owner of Golden Oldies Records, Dean Silverstone, passed away on March 26th.

He led many different lives, all of them colorful. At different periods, he was a wrestling promoter, owner of a chain of record stores from Olympia to Bellingham, and a Hollywood soundtrack consultant. There’s an interesting profile of him on the KIRO news website; it is well worth a read.

Silverstone sold the Wallingford Golden Oldies record shop on 45th to new owners in 2017. Like most places in the neighborhood, they are temporarily closed due …

Here’s the most current information for restaurants open for business as of 4/11/2020. Things change quickly, so I recommend calling ahead. Restaurants are listed alphabetically. The menus are on the delivery service websites, but most also have menus and ordering information on their own websites.

Did I miss your favorite restaurant in this list? Add it in the comments or shoot me an email at [email protected] and I will update.

In the following list, the delivery services they work with are abbreviated as follows:

Wallingford business roundup 3/17

Katy March 16, 2020 2 Comments

Well, it’s been A WEEK. Things are changing so quickly in response to the coronavirus outbreak, it is hard to know what to do. So many of the small businesses that make our neighborhood so great are in danger of closing forever, and many of the most vulnerable in our community are teetering on the edge. Below are some ways you can support neighbors and local businesses while still maintaining social distance.

There has been a reduction in donations of groceries to food banks, and a donation to FamilyWorks, our local food bank, would be greatly appreciated.

Many businesses are …

Drag Lynx

A fun story ten years in the making came across Wallyhood’s inbox this morning.

In 2010, Wallyhood posted a story about a Craigslist ad asking for information about a car club at Lincoln High School (read the original story here).

A decade later, that ad paid off:

Hello! My name is Ray Guardiano, Class of 1974, Lincoln High. Ten years ago, you allowed me to post a request to your readers that I looking for any information on a Lincoln High car club from the late 50’s to the late 60’s known as the “Drag Lynx.” I have received no …
