Species on the Verge

Back in July, we put out a call to artists for an interesting art installation called "Species on the Verge & Other Works w/POV" at Wallingford Center. If you hadn't seen it during the Art Walk, now's your chance to stop by the Kerf International Gallery (located inside Wallingford Center) and see the installation through Sept 23rd. Debra Barnes, the creative director for the project wrote to tell us that "The artists are terrific and the universe is smiling." Hours are…

Apply now for 2012 arts & cultural funds

Every year, our neighborhood hosts a number of community arts and cultural events, adding to the funky, artsy, and sometimes quirky vibrancy of Wallingford. Some of these events, including the Edible Book Festival, HonkFest West, and the Seattle Improvised Music Festival (SIMF), receive annual funding through the Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs' Neighborhood & Community Arts program which serves to "Help Seattle’s neighborhood art councils and community-based groups produce annual festivals and events that enhance the visibility of neighborhoods, promote…

La Figa

But thanks to helpful reader Gayle Perez and a slow news day, we're back! First,…

Bubbles gets a touch-up

On Sunday, folks around N. 41st St. and Interlake gathered together for a neighborhood block party, and to give Bubbles the Turtle street mural a touch up. Kids were treated to a bouncy house which was still going strong by 8:15 pm when I stopped by. Bubbles looks good as new, and gosh, I'm amazed it's been a whole year since we first told you about the neighbors getting together to create the colorful turtle.

Last year, Jordan created a Yard Art Map, showing locations of outdoor art scattered through the neighborhood, and asked readers to contribute to the map by adding more art spots. Since then, the map's grown to about 20 pieces Wallingford-wide, and it just goes to show ya--we've got some great outdoor art! The organizers of Wallingford Walks agree, which is why at this Saturday, they'll be roaming around the neighborhood to enjoy our neighborhood's yard and public art. Everyone is invited…
