Essential Baking leaving Wallingford

Eagle-eyed tipsters saw a note tucked into the Wallingford eNews that the Essential Baking Company is planning to shut their Wallingford bakery down. Wha-what? But...but...Rosemary Diamante! We gave Lee at EBC a call to find out what the scoop was, and he confirmed that, while the exact plans are still being solidified, they are planning to move out of the bakery this Spring. A few years back, they acquired Parisian Star Desserts down in the Cloverdale area of South Seattle and…

Kuma Coffee

(Wallyhood reader Ryan G. sent in this fine review of little known but much loved coffee house, Kuma Coffee) We live in Seattle where it’s ok to be a coffee snob.  And that is a good thing.  We have some of the greatest independent coffee shops in the country in our own back yard… Vivace, Victrola, Stumptown, Lladro, Fuel… you get the idea.  We also have one in our neighborhood that you may never have heard of- Kuma, the storefront coffee…

Bamboo Village coming to Wallingford

Eagle-eyed Wallyhood Reader Jay W. spotted construction (and a bit of overexuberant hedge-cutting) underway at 49th and Stone Way where Home Realty used to be. A bit of web searching, and he turned up this permit, which authorizes the construction of a "1-story addition to the west of existing comm bldg, interior tenant improvements, establish use as restaurant (Bamboo Village) and occupy all per plan."

Co-owner Ben Steele contacted Wallyhood last week to tell us about some of the changes: "We bulked up the menu by adding Boar's Head meats, some new sandwiches and other items and designed a new handout menu. We are now open until midnight on Friday…

Art and Olives

We found a few interesting sales going on in homes around the neighborhood this weekend. The sun shining so warmly, it's well worth the walk to stroll over. At her home on 4033 Eastern Ave N, Rena is selling her home cured olives and spices. The olives themselves are brought fresh in a barrel from Israel. She opens them individually with a stone to let the brine in, then mixes them with spices and garlic, all from here garden here in…

Harvest Fest @ Wallingford Presbyterian Church

[Ed. note: Matt took these beautiful pictures of the WPC Harvest Festival almost a month ago. We forgot to post the pictures until now.] Harvest Fest at Wallingford Presbyterian Church was held October 25th. Bringing together all the best things about fall for the kids. Pies and other refreshments, pumpkin carving, costumes, a treasure hunt, and pin the tail on the donkey. A great family event to celebrate the changing of the seasons.
