Historic Wallingford’s Indigenous Research Project: Call for Community Input by this Friday, October 9th

If you are following the Wallingford Indigenous Research Project led by Historic Wallingford, we’d appreciate your input to help guide next steps. The project, entitled Beyond Acknowledgment: Indigenous Wallingford Futures, began in June. The research team, led by Dr. Alexandra Meany, included UW graduate student Naomi Vaughn Wynn and UW freshman Amara Aalfs-Weinbaum, both of whom trace their lineage to Indigenous tribes. The first phase involved developing a reading list that guides those interested through the histories of Indigenous people in…

The Last Weekend of Summer in Wallingford and Environs

The autumnal equinox is coming up on Tuesday, September 22nd, making this the last weekend of summer! It looks to be lovely, weather-wise, allowing us to make the most of the many activities on offer in and near our neighborhood. Of course, there’s the Great Wallingford Bratwurst Festival, the Oktoberfest-esque neighborhood party for young and old alike. But there are many other things going on as well. We’ve covered some of this in Wallyhood already, and they are on the Wallingford…

Drinkin’ and Drivin’ at the Pitch & Putt

For the nearly 30 years that I have lived in this neighborhood and vicinity, I had never been to the Green Lake Pitch & Putt. Oh, yes. I have been to many of the nearby attractions. I have been to the zoo. I have been to a great many of the businesses on the lake’s east side: Super Jock & Jill, Shelter (now Easy Pace Brewing), Nell’s, Greggs Cycles, Jellyfish Brewing. I have walked around Green Lake many times. Of course.…

Many Hands Make Unity Work

I joined my neighbors on Saturday at Hands Around Green Lake, "a peaceful gathering to honor our community, our resilience as a nation, and the values we stand for: unity, freedom, equality, justice, kindness, love, resilience, compassion, and community." The event was inspired by a similar event held at Lake Merritt in Oakland, CA. While it looks like our California neighbors enjoyed some sun on their day, consistent drizzle and a chill in the air didn't stop a reported 2700+ folks…

Moored in Tangletown

Tangletown resident, Gina, snapped this pic of a boat moored on the traffic circle on Kenwood at Woodlawn. If you look closely, you'll see an orange "vehicle violation" sticker on the windshield. KIRO News posted a picture of the sticker up close, which you can see here. The Seattle Police officer who issued the sticker wrote "Really?" under "Remarks" on the sticker. KIRO also notes that "The Seattle Police Department gave the vessel a vacate notice, ordering it be removed by…

Seattle Canoe and Kayak Club Open House

If you've got kids 10 and up who love being out on the water, then you'll want to check out Seattle Canoe and Kayak Club (SCKC), which meets just over yonder, at the Green Lake Small Craft Center. This Saturday, SCKC is holding an Open House, from 10:00am to 1:00pm, for kids (and parents) to come and see what the club has to offer. Here's some information from the club: Is your 5th grader/middle school student looking for a great sport that…
