Assistance League awards summer camp scholarships

Wallingford-based Assistance League of Seattle has awarded $32,000 in enrichment scholarships this year to 70 students from Seattle Schools through its annual Enrichment Scholarship Program. The scholarships provide students from grades 6-11 full or partial tuition to attend summer camps at Cornish Institute, Whitman Dance, UW Robinson Center, Marrowstone Music, language camp and art, theater and outdoor programs. Xiaoyu Clements, a seventh grader from Hamilton, is going to Summer Dance at Whitman College.  The Assistance League of Seattle is located at 1414 and 1419 North 45th…

John Stanford International School Margie Butcher writes: My 2nd grade class at John Stanford Elementary School will be at Whole Foods on Roosevelt this Sunday from 10:00-2:00 selling canvas bags they decorated as a part of our Action Network project to benefit homeless animals.  All proceeds will go to Old Dog Haven, who will have both human and canine volunteers at the event!  The bags are made from cotton scraps and recycled pop bottles, and will be sold for $20. JSIS student places second in writing competition

Congratulations to Emma Snavely, a fifth-grader at John Stanford International School, who took second place in a national creative writing competition sponsored by the American Immigration Council. The American Immigration Council asked fifth-grade students to write about why they were glad America is a nation of immigrants, and encouraged entrants to share their personal experiences, family histories, or their views on the challenges incoming immigrants face when they arrive in the U.S. Emma wrote two very moving poems titled "Crossing the Line" and…

The first graders at John Stanford International School are hosting their annual plant sale to raise money for their sister school Juan de la Barrera in Puerta Vallarta.
