It has been a long ten days, but thankfully, it has only been ten since the Wallingford Flex Cat went missing. Today an alert neighbor down in the lower hood heard some meowing coming from a construction site on Sunnyside; a home just a few doors away from Bodhi's is in the final stages of a remodel. The hood's beloved feline must have wandered in when someone was there to share his wealth of love and then gotten accidentally locked inside.…
For those who read my previous "Notes From the Playground" posts, you might remember the story of a toddler's poop-smeared ride down the slide that got a discussion going about needing a Mutt Mitt dispenser at Wallingford Park. Well, the mitts are in, or at least the dispenser is. You can find it at Northwest corner of the park, at 43rd and Woodlawn. But perhaps more frequent refills are in need? I've checked the dispenser a few times over the past couple of weeks…
The successor to the Four Legs Good pet store, Wally Pets, opens today. In our original post announcing the opening (New Pet Shop), a number of commenters mentioned their dissatisfaction with the old shop. For example: I eventually had to give up on Four Legs Good after more than once I ran by to get pet supplies there, but was surprised to find them closed or in “be right back” state, and it kinda threw my whole errand schedule off for…
Good news on the Mutt Mitt front. I've just found out that our request has been approved and a work order was submitted this week for the return of our Mutt Mitt dispenser. In the next week or two, it will be installed at the NW entrance of Wallingford Playfield at 43rd and Woodlawn. For now, the Parks Department will regularly check the dispenser and re-stock as necessary. I've agreed to follow up with them in a few months to see…
As a result of community feedback on my last playground post, Amores Perros, I contacted Seattle Parks and Recreation with our request for a MuttMitt dispenser for Wallingford Playfield. I've been informed by a communications manager that due to budget cuts, the Parks Department will not be able to accomodate all requests as they have in the past, but he has put it to the attention of the grounds supervisor so it is now officially under consideration. I'll provide an update once I get word of the decision.…
If you're a parent, you're undoubtedly familiar with the idea of a baby-sitting co-op, where parents babysit for one another in exchange for being babysat for. Would the same thing work for pets? Chris Y. wants to find out, and is looking to start a pet-sitting co-op. She writes: With much holiday and spring travel coming up, and with a desire not to take advantage (too often) of kind friends and neighbors, I am wondering if there are any dog owners…
I went for a run at the park a few weeks ago (before they put up that fence) and paid the price. I hadn’t done a lick of exercise since the new baby. Okay, so she’s not that new anymore, but she hasn’t hit the one year mark yet so I feel like I can still claim her as my exercise exemption. In any case, my pitiful twenty minute run left me hacking some major spittle and gave me a bad head cold.…
