The upzones are coming! The upzones are coming! (Can you picture me riding my horse through Wallingford and sounding the alarm just like Paul Revere?) But seriously, the City Council is moving forward. On January 7, the City had the first of five special committee meetings to discuss the HALA MHA upzones. A public hearing has been scheduled for February 21 and a final City Council vote is set for March 18. Yikes. There’s currently a glut of empty luxury apartments…

I recently received an email from Robert Long, Senior Conservation Scientist at the zoo informing me that the project website has now gone live.…

Out walking tonight, I saw several police cars patrolling the neighborhood, going the wrong way down Latona and up Thackeray until they all seemed to converge up around NE 44th St and 2nd Ave NE. All told, there were eight police cars, a couple of fire trucks and an ambulance. Geoff posted to our Facebook page: For anyone who was curious about the convergence of 8 cop cars and 2 fire engines tonight, just south of 44th on 1st Ave., NE.,…

Homelessness still is an issue for our city. As a community we have spent many millions of dollars over the past decade. As a citizen, the issue does not appear to have improved much after all that effort for any side of the issue. This Friday, the Meaningful Movies will be screening Trickle Down Town, a film made by a Seattle native about homelessness. Here is the blurb from Meaningful Movies website: This new film from a Seattle filmmaker, who will…

Wallyhood: Top Ten Stories of 2018

As I did for 2016 and 2017, I've compiled a list of Wallyhood's top ten stories from 2018 using this site's analytics.  The stories below are ranked using page views, and while some of our forum posts are pretty highly viewed, I haven't included them since they are not really stories. To qualify for this list, a story had to have been written in 2018, so older stories that may have gained a lot page views in 2018 don't count. In…
